With the final Test between India and Sri Lanka ending in a draw at Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla, Virat Kohli's side equaled the record for most consecutive series wins. The Indian team now has nine straight series wins, at par with England and Australia. On the final day of the third Test, the Lankan batsmen batted with intent and did not lose wickets easily, enabling them to draw the match. Dhananjaya de Silva (119) hit a fine century as he notched up his third Test century. However, the centurion could not bat through the match due to an injury and retired hurt just before tea. Following which, Niroshan Dickwella and Roshen Silva held the Lankan innings and batted throughout the rest of the day. For India, Ravindra Jadeja finished with the figures of three for 81. Kohli was adjudged as both the man of the match and series.
Not for a single moment was the Lankan team under pressure as they tackled the Indian bowlers carefully on the final day. De Silva's innings was the highlight of the first two sessions as he was hardly troubled by the Indian bowlers en route his third Test hundred. His innings was studded with 15 boundaries and a six off Ravichandran Ashwin. During the first session, Jadeja endured mixed luck with a couple of no-balls. The first one accounted for Angelo Mathews (1), with the umpires missing it altogether, while the second was a brilliant delivery to clean up Chandimal but the umpires were more cautious and promptly called him for overstepping.(Scorecard)
