Electing to bat, India reached 329 for six at stumps of the third and final Test against Sri Lanka, at Pallekele on Saturday. Wriddhiman Saha was batting on 13 and Hardik Pandya was on 1 when the stumps were drawn. Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan (119) and KL Rahul (85) gave India a solid start and played with intent. The opening duo brought up their 50-partnership off just 55 balls in the 10th over and kept up the pace to reach 100 off 107 balls in the 18th over.
However, the Lankan lions fought back by sending both openers back to the pavilion post-lunch, courtesy Malinda Pushpakumara, who ended the day with figures of three for 40. Though Virat Kohli (42) and Ajinkya Rahane (17) tried re-building the innings, the bowlers pegged back the visitors with regular wickets. India would like to add more runs on the board when they come out to bat on Sunday. (SCORECARD)

9:22 IST: Hello and welcome to our live cricket blog for Day 1 of the final Test between India and Sri Lanka.
Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has added one more feather to his cap after becoming the only India captain to win two Test series in Sri Lanka. Runs have come easy for the Indians in the series with Cheteshwar Pujara leading the list with a couple centuries to his name and an average of more than 100 so far. However, India will miss the services of Ravindra Jadeja in the final Test starting Saturday due to his suspension for breaching an ICC conduct code. With not too many changes expected to take place in the Indian side, the visitors will either opt for Axar Patel who has been included in the 15-member squad or Kuldeep Yadav who has impressed one and all with his bowling display in the practice games.
