Sanju Samson (61) and Rishabh Pant (97) took the Gujarat bowlers to the cleaners as runs came thick and fast for the hosts. Delhi lost their captain Karun Nair early in the tall run-chase but Samson and Pant took the attack to the opposition and brought the asking rate down to run a ball in no time. At the end Delhi won by seven wickets with 15 balls to spare to keep their chances of reaching the play-offs alive. Pant and Samson shared a 143-run partnership for the second wicket to help Delhi easily overhaul Gujarat's score. (Scorecard)
Earlier, Gujarat Lions got off to a terrible start after being put into bat as the visitors lost both their openers, Brendon MCCullum and Dwayne Smith in quick succession. Suresh Raina (77) along with Dinesh Karthik (65) stitched together a century-run stand to get things rolling for Gujarat as Delhi Daredevils struggled to break the partnership. A brilliant cameo from Aaron Finch at the end with Ravindra Jadeja using the long handle to good effect took Gujarat over the 200-run mark at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi.Â

IPL Highlights: DD vs GL
Right then, that's all from this match. No score is safe in this format. Gujarat would have thought they will defend 208 but Rishabh Pant stole the show and delivered the knockout punch to them. Tomorrow, Bangalore will host Punjab at 2000 local (1430 GMT). Do join us for all the action as one team between the two is still alive in the tournament. Cheers!
Rishabh Pant is the unanimous choice for the Man of the Match award! A big smile on the young man's face. Says that he and Sanju Samson targeted the bad balls. Adds that he likes playing aggressive cricket and feels the wicket suited his style of batting. Also says that they are not thinking too ahead and taking one game at a time.
Delhi captain, Karun Nair says it was an amazing performance and probably the best partnership he's seen. States there wasn't a set plan as such as they were chasing a big total, just have to take it as it goes. Wanted his players to go out and play with freedom and not worry about the fear of failure. (On how Samson and Pant hit their shots so well) Says the trick was to get the fear of failure out of the way and hit the ball as it came. Ends by thanking the team owners and their fans for their support through the bad phase.
Gujarat captain, Suresh Raina says it was a tough day at the office as Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson batted really well. States it's important to bowl dot balls when the batsmen are hitting it like that. Thought 208 was still defendable, despite losing some key players to injury. Admits they don't have experience to bowl with the older ball and rues Andrew Tye's loss for that reason. Credits Pant and Samson for their amazing knocks once more.
Not to forget Sanju Samson's contribution with the bat. He played second fiddle in the 143-run partnership but also played some delightful shots. Gujarat did manage to break the stand but the damage was already done. Don't think there is any need to talk about the bowlers from the visiting team. They took a hammering and will want to forget this night. Gujarat are knocked out of the tournament after this loss.
Boom! Delhi have made a complete mockery of the target. I've never seen a 200-plus score getting chased down with such ease. All thanks to one man - Rishabh Pant. He was electric with the bat today. Burst on the scene after the fall of Karun Nair's wicket and took the chase by the scruff of the neck. He plundered nine sixes and six fours in his rocketing innings and took the Gujarat bowlers on a tour around the stadium.
SIX! 20 sixes hit tonight, Corey Anderson finishes the chase off in immaculate fashion. It's full and in the slot, he smokes this back down the ground over the long on fence for a six. DELHI WIN THIS MATCH BY 7 WICKETS AND 15 BALLS TO SPARE! Wow. Who'd have thunk, eh?
Wide! Fires it down the leg side, Anderson looks to flick but misses.
Another leg bye. Goes off Iyer's pads this time and the batsmen run across.
Angling in on leg, goes off the pads as Anderson looks to play across the line. The batsmen take a leg bye.
