We are back for the chase. Samson leads his team out. David Warner and Prithvi Shaw are the openers for Delhi.
... THE RUN CHASE ...
Now the target is a big one, the wicket is flat but Delhi have to bat really well against a strong bowling attack. They'll need someone to match Buttler if they are to chase this down. Can they do so?
Devdutt Padikkal is down for a chat. He says Wankhede has a good wicket to bat on and they just needed to get into the rhythm. Adds that they knew the bowlers they needed to target and feel happy to get back along with the runs. Feels 180-190 as a decent total and feels like a defendable total. Jokes and says he even asked Buttler, is it that easy to bat.
The Delhi bowlers, after a brilliant outing in the last game, have been taken to the cleaners in this one. All their bowlers had no answers to the carnage from the Rajasthan batters. However, not sure why Thakur wasn't given his full quota. He bowled two good overs but ended up bowling only 3. Overall though, Delhi were not only poor with the ball but also on the field. They do have a fiery batting line-up and are well and truly capable of chasing this down.
After being inserted to bat, both the openers played the initial period really well when the ball was moving around. Once they got their eye in, they were toying with the bowlers. It was raining boundaries. The two added a 150-plus run stand. Devdutt Padikkal fell but Buttler continued and got up yet another ton. Samson too continued the good work from the openers and played a brilliant cameo. Rajasthan will be very pleased with the total they have.
How good is that man? How good is Jos Buttler? What a season he is having, back-to-back tons and he is the reason yet again as to why Rajasthan have ended with a mammoth total. The highest total in this edition so far!
19.6 overs (6 Runs) SIX! Maximum to end the innings! A full toss, easy on the legs. Samson wrists it, high and handsomely over mid-wicket for a biggie. Rajasthan end on 222 for 2.
19.5 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Edgy! A length ball, outside off. Samson looks to cut but gets a bottom edge to short third man where the fielder dives over the ball.
19.4 overs (1 Run) A low full toss, on middle. Hetmyer pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a single.
19.3 overs (1 Run) Full ball, angling across. Samson hits it to deep mid-wicket. A single.
19.3 overs (1 Run) Wide! Full again, slanting way outside off, over the tramline. A wide given.
19.2 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Bang! Too full and outside off. Samson thumps it to long off for a boundary.
19.1 overs (2 Runs) Full ball, outside off. Samson looks to go big but slices it in the air and to covers. The deep cover fielder charges forward but collects it on a bounce. There is a run out chance but Hetmyer is in. Two runs.
19.1 overs (1 Run) Wide! Full and angling wide outside off. Samson swings and misses.
Shimron Hetmyer walks out to bat now. Also, Shardul Thakur comes back to bowl the final over of the innings.
18.6 overs (0 Run) OUT! TAKEN! End of one of the most entertaining innings from this season! A full toss, on leg. Buttler clears his front leg and smashes it straight to long on where Warner takes it. A standing ovation as Jos Buttler makes his way back. Superb knock by the opener.
18.5 overs (2 Runs) Fullish ball, on middle. Buttler gets underneath and smashes it to Rahman who gets his left foot out but fails to stop it. Rovman Powell runs from long off to his right, stops by his foot and does well to save a couple of runs. The umpire checks it but just two runs.
18.4 overs (1 Run) Full and on off. Sanju smacks it to deep mid-wicket for a single. 200 up!
18.3 overs (1 Run) A yorker, on off, pushed to covers for a single.
18.2 overs (6 Runs) SIX! Wide, full and outside off. Buttler swings hard, does not middle it but that is his power, that makes the ball go all the way over the leaping long off fielder.
18.1 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! A low full toss and on middle. Buttler whacks it to deep square leg for a boundary. Good start to the over.
17.6 overs (0 Run) DROPPED! A Dolly from Khaleel Ahmed! Cannot remember an easier catch than this which has been dropped. Short and on middle. Samson looks to pull but mistimes it completely. The ball lobs on the leg side, not to far away from Khaleel Ahmed! he runs across and has a sitter to take but he had butter and bread for lunch. The butter is still there on his hands and he drops it.
17.5 overs (6 Runs) SIX! All the way! Fuller ball, outside off. Samson hits it hard, it goes more off the splice, all the way behind square on the off side for a maximum. Short square boundaries here.
17.4 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Samson is already on the 5th gear! Full but way outside off, Samson smashes it over covers for a boundary.
17.4 overs (1 Run) Wide! Samson shuffles in the crease and tries to ramp this full ball, way outside off. He misses and a wide is given.
17.3 overs (6 Runs) SIX! HAMMERED! A full toss, on off. Samson hangs back and pummels it over long on for a biggie.
17.2 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! A bit of delay and we are back with carnage! Fuller ball, outside off. Samson hammers it through covers for a boundary. Little bit of width and he makes the most of it.
Slight halt in play! Sanju Samson has been hit on the helmet while attempting to play a shot. The physio is out there to have a check on him. He seems fine and we are good to resume!
17.1 overs (0 Run) A full ball, on middle. Samson makes room and tries to scoop it but plays all over it. Miscues it completely and he ends up getting hit on the helmet.
16.6 overs (1 Run) Full toss, outside off. Samson works it to deep point for a run.
16.5 overs (1 Run) Really well bowled! A full ball, on the toes. Buttler digs it out to mid-wicket for a single.
16.4 overs (1 Run) On middle, pulled away to deep mid-wicket for a single.
16.3 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Cheeky! Short and on off. Samson leans back and upper cuts it over short third man for a boundary.
16.2 overs (1 Run) A full toss, on off, pushed to long off for a single.
16.1 overs (1 Run) Short and on middle. Samson looks to pull but gets a top edge to mid on where the ball lands safely. A single. Just give the strike to Buttler, that is the mantra now.
15.6 overs (0 Run) Fuller ball, outside off. Buttler looks to scoop it away but misses. Still a good over from Ahmed.
15.5 overs (2 Runs) CENTURY FOR JOS BUTTLER! There he jumps in delight as he reaches to the milestone. What an innings, what a player! This is on the pads, he flicks it to deep mid-wicket for a brace. He removes the helmet and stretches his arms. Wankhede is roaring as they appreciate the knock.
15.4 overs (1 Run) Full and outside off. Samson works it to deep cover for a single. Strike to Jos Buttler, standing on 99.
15.3 overs (0 Run) Superb delivery yet again! Almost a yorker, on middle. Samson drills it back to Ahmed who shapes to hit on the stumps as Samson was a bit out of his crease.
15.2 overs (0 Run) Too full and shaping around off. Samson gets his bat down to defend.
Strategic break! Delhi can breathe a sigh of relief for now! Their bowlers have been taken to the cleaners but they have finally managed to break the opening stand. Rajasthan are firmly in the driver's seat for now. Jos Buttler is approaching yet another milestone. He just cannot stop scoring hundreds. Also, Sanju Samson comes out to bat now.
15.1 overs (0 Run) OUT! LBW! A full ball, angling on middle. Padikkal looks to flick but misses and gets hit on the pads. Ahmed is running away with his celebration but the umpire does not entertain him as he keeps his finger down. Ahmed straightaway asks Pant to take it upstairs. UltraEdge shows no bat there. Ball Tracking shows three reds and finally, Khaleel gets a breakthrough. There were two noises but Khaleel was adamant in his appeal and gets the wicket. Can Delhi put a lid on the run flow now? A mammoth stand of 155 is broken.
