INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE 2022 POINTS TABLE
  • Delhi Capitals had finish top of the IPL points table last season, with eventual winners Chennai Super Kings second. Royal Challengers Bangalore were third while IPL finalists Kolkata Knight Riders had finished fourth in the IPL points table. With the addition of two new teams in IPL 2022, the battle for IPL points is going to be an intense one. With just three wins in the entirety of last season, SunRisers Hyderabad had finished last in the IPL standings. They will surely be hoping for a change in fortunes and will aim to fare much better on the IPL points table. Last season's Orange Cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was retained by CSK, will be looking to replicate his exploits while Virat Kohli, with the burden of captaincy, will be raring to win back the Orange Cap, having last won in IPL 2016. RCB's Harshal Patel was the surprise package in the race for the Purple Cap, eventually winning it by taking a whopping 32 wickets. Playing for Delhi Capitals, fast bowler Avesh Khan finished second in the Purple Cap race with 24 wickets. He will, however, be seen in new colours, after Delhi Capitals failed to buy him back. Instead, new franchise Lucknow Super Giants splashed the cash on him and will hope he repeats his performances from IPL 2021. Indian bowlers dominated the top 10 in the Purple Cap race, with only Rashid Khan and Jason Holder being the two foreign players to make it to the top 10. With many new faces and players turning up for new teams, the race for the Purple Cap is sure to be hotly-contested. IPL 2022 will be played in a unique format with the teams being divided into two groups. The top four teams in the IPL points table will qualify for the playoffs.
