England were 23 without any loss as the openers Alastair Cook (9*) and Keaton Jennings (13*) negotiated the tricky nine over of play towards the end of Day 3 of the third Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. At stumps, England required another 498 runs to win with 10 wickets in hand and two days of play still remaining. Earlier, in their second innings India declared on 352 for seven, just forty minutes before stumps, setting a target of 521 for England in the fourth innings. Skipper Virat Kohli (103) yet again led the team from the front, notching up his 23rd century in Test cricket. Cheteshwar Pujara (72) batted brilliantly along with the skipper stitching a 113-run partnership for the third wicket, in the first two sessions of the day. Hardik Pandya also scored run-a-ball 52 in the final session, bringing up his first half-century of the series. For England, it was a disappointing day with the ball as the pace battery failed against the batting pair of Pujara and Virat Kohli. England needed wickets at regular intervals to restrict India from piling on big runs but failed miserably as the duo batted England almost out of the game on the third day. (SCORECARD)

14:30 IST: Hello and welcome to the live coverage of Day 3 of the third Test at Trent Bridge.
Tea report - A 113-run partnership for the third wicket between Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli placed India in a commanding position as the visitors extended their lead to 438 at tea on Day 3 of the third Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. Virat Kohli was unbeaten on 93 runs along with the vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane on 17 runs as India scored 270 for the loss of three wickets in the second innings. After a terrific morning session both the Indian batsmen continued to pile more misery on England. With weather conditions providing no assistance, England seamers looked helpless against the batting duo of Virat and Pujara. Ben Stokes finally got the much-needed breakthrough for England, getting rid of Pujara for 72 runs. Post Pujara's dismissal, the captain and his deputy stitched and unbeaten 46-run partnership putting India in the driver's seat.
Lunch report - Indian batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara (56*) and Virat Kohli (54*) continued to frustrate England bowlers as India extended their lead to 362 at lunch on Day 3 of the third Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. Both the batsmen notched up half-centuries as India finished on 194 without losing any wicket in the morning session. Resuming from the overnight score of 124 for two, both Pujara and Virat played cautiously at the start of the session with slightly overcast but warmer conditions. James Anderson created a chance for England but Jos Buttler failed to grab Pujara's edge when he was on the score of 40. In the first hour of the play, Indian scoring was pretty slow but in the latter part of the session both batsmen scored runs freely. For England, things could not have been worse. None of the seamers except James Anderson were able to trouble the Indian batsmen. Adil Rahid too seemed ineffective as both batsmen played him with ease. With a healthy lead and wickets in hand, India will now look the up the scoring rate in the second session of the day.
Coming into bat, England started their innings steadly. The hosts were 46/0, trailing by 283 runs at lunch. England openers Alastair Cook Aand Keaton Jennings applied themselves handsomely and made sure they went for lunch without losing any wicket. Cook faced 30 balls and slammed three boundaries while Jennings played 25 deliveries and hit the same number of boundaries. But after lunch, England struggled as Indian bolwers bounced back in style.
Hardik Pandya's 5/28 broke the back of English batting line-up as the hosts were bundled out for 161 in their first innings. India rode on a brilliant bowling display as the entire England batsmen were wrapped after they added just 115 runs in the second session of the second day.
Apart from Pandya, pacers Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah scalped couple of wickets each conceding 32 and 37 runs respectively while Mohammed Shami bagged one. Jos Buttler was the top scorer for the hosts with his 39 runs while openers Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings chipped in with 29 and 20 runs respectively.
The final session saw Indian batsmen swelling their overall lead. Openers Shikhar Dhawan (44) and Lokesh Rahul (36) gave the steady start. But just when things seemed good in the middle Rahul was sent back to the pavilion. He was clean-bowled by Ben Stokes. Soon, after adding 61 runs with Pujara, Dhawan was also dismissed by spinner Adil Rashid when scoreboard was reading 111. But Kohli and Pujara then played sensibly and without losing their wickets and ended the day by swelling their lead. (Play fantasy league and win cash daily)Â
The England bowlers weren't poor. They tried hard but without much success. A few chances went down too. But you cannot take the credit away from India. They dealt with the conditions superbly to blunt the English pacers. Adil Rashid was a big disappointment for the home team. Hardik Pandya towards the end salted the wounds even more with an attacking half century. Stay tuned for England's reply...
A powerful batting show by India yet again. After gaining a handsome lead, their batsmen came out with positive intent and batted with a lot of control. Their openers once again laid a strong platform and then the pair of Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli swelled the lead with a century partnership. The former missed his ton but the Indian skipper once again displayed his class by notching up his second hundred of the series. One can feel that the tourists delayed in declaring their innings but they still have 189 overs to take England's 9 wickets (Bairstow with a fractured finger is doubtful to bat).
Here comes the declaration. England's misery is over, finally. India have set a gigantic target of 521 runs in front of the home team to win this Test and seal the series. A nearly impossible task and England will consider themselves lucky if they come out unscathed.
Tossed up fuller on the stumps. Pandya comes forward and turns it away towards the mid-wicket region for a single. Is Kohli calling his boys back?
Ashwin elegantly drives this floated delivery to the mid on region. They cross over.
Pandya has pulled this short ball on middle. The fielder at deep mid-wicket keeps it for just a single.
OUT! Tossed up on middle. Shami gives this a full swing of the bat, and connects. It looks like it will sail over the ropes but it has been taken near the boundary line at deep mid-wicket by Cook. No declaration still as Ashwin is seen coming out to bat.
Way outside off by Rashid, Pandya reaches out and cuts it to the fielder at cover point for a single
FOUR! Rashid continues and Pandya also continues, smashing him. He is in T20 mode now. Rashid drags this one a bit shorter. Pandya stays back and hits it hard straight down the ground. No chance for the fielder at long on to cut it off. Gets to his fifty with a good strong shot.
Excellent running! A yorker on off, Shami jams it out towards covers and the batsmen run two.
