Ishant Sharma Profile

Ishant Sharma took world cricket by storm in 2007-08 by knocking over one of the greatest batsmen of all-time, Ricky Ponting, during India’s tour of Australia. The 6 feet 4 inches bowler has a combination of a high arm delivery action and genuine pace. His determined five-fer against the touring Pakistan side in 2008, in only his second Test, made everyone believe that India finally possessed a good fast bowler.

Ishant’s career took a path of decline after his initial dream run in Tests and ODIs. His 10 wickets in the 2013 Champions Trophy in England was one of the highlights of his ODI career. However, he has failed to be consistent and often blown hot and cold. In the Indian T20 League, he has played for many sides which exemplifies the point that he’s not adapted to the changing game of cricket.

Sharma lost his place in colored clothing but remained an integral part of India’s Test cricket system. It was his bowling in the second innings (7/74) in the Lord’s Test in 2014 that gave India their first win at the venue since 1986. In 2015, he took eight wickets in a game to set up the series win in Sri Lanka.

Ishant, who hails from Delhi, is the fourth Indian pacer to have taken 200 Test wickets after Kapil Dev, Javagal Srinath and Zaheer Khan. While he may not have the wickets to show for his bowling since 2016, he still has age on his side and can be expected to add further to his Test wickets tally.
