3rd Test: Seamers Guide India To Historic Series Win vs West Indies
Riding on brilliant spells from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma and a well-matured hundred from R Ashwin, India demolished West Indies by 237 runs on the fifth day of the third Test in St Lucia to seal the four-match series 2-0.
Led by Ajinkya Rahane, Indian batsmen scored quickly in the first session of Day 5. Miguel Cummins, who failed to grab a scalp at Jamaica, finished with impressive figures of 9/102. (Images Credit: AFP)
Chasing a tricky total of 346, Windies got off to a worst possible start as they lost Kraigg Brathwaite and Leon Johnson early (in a span of six balls).
Marlon Samuels, who looked to attack right from the word go, lost his wicket to Ishant Sharma as Windies were reduced to 35/3 inside the first 15 overs.
Roston Chase, who played a match-saving knock in the second Test, got out cheaply this time.
W Saha's brilliant glovework got the better of Jermaine Blackwood. He became Ravindra Jadeja's first victim of the innings.
Darren Bravo was the only Windies batsmen who showed some resistance but he ran out of partners.
R Ashwin and Jadeja struck after lunch as India thrashed Windies by 237 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in four-match series.
Indian seamers took a total of 12 wickets in the match.
This was the first instance when India managed to win more than one Test in a series in the Caribbean.
India have the series in the bag and a win in Trinidad Test, starting from August 18, will help them climb to No. 1 spot in ICC Test Rankings.
