Harbhajan Singh-Geeta Basra Wedding Ceremonies Start With Mehandi

Off national duty, star cricketer Harbhajan Singh and actress Geeta Basra are warming up to their wedding on Thursday. The celebrations have started with the traditional mehandi ceremony. The wedding rituals are being performed at a hotel in Phagwara, 20 kilometers from Harbhajan's hometown, Jalandhar.

Harbhajan tweeted about the sangeet celebrations and also shared a photo with his soon-to-be wife.

Harbhajan's mother, Avtaar Kaur, inscribed her daughter-in-law's name on the Harbhajan's hands with mehandi. Relatives and close friends were present during the auspicious occasion. The 35-year-old feisty spinner was also seen shaking a leg with his friends and family members.

Unlike Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma, who have been quite open about their relationship, Harbhajan's has been a closely-guarded one. The UK-born Basra has been linked with the Indian off-spinner for several years but it was only earlier this year that she opened up about her admiration for Harbhajan's passion for cricket.

"He is a very strong headed person and that shows on-screen (in matches)... He got success at an early age and still he is so grounded and humble. He loves his game. I want to learn that from him," she was quoted as saying by PTI in June.

The wedding celebrations will be spread over for five days with reception taking place in Delhi on November 1. The reception is likely to see big names like Yuvraj Singh, Kohli and many Bollywood celebrities.

Harbhajan, who was part of the India ODI squad in the series against South Africa, is not in the national squad for the first two Tests. Ravindra Jadeja replaced the veteran spinner, who has played 103 Tests and taken 417 wickets.
