1st ODI, India vs Australia Highlights: Rohit Sharma's Ton Goes in Vain as Steven Smith, George Bailey Steal Show
Rohit Sharma's brilliant ton went in vain, as Australia reached the target of 310 with four balls to spare in Perth on Tuesday. Steven Smith and George Bailey produced a brilliant 242-run stand for the third wicket to help hosts take 1-0 lead in five ODI series. Barinder Sran made an impressive debut picking 3/56. India started their limited-over series Down Under on a losing note as Australia sealed the first One-day International by five wickets. Rohit Sharma who began on  a slow note, picked up the pace towards the end of the innings to finish 171 not out.
Barinder Sran, who made his India debut, was impressive with the new ball as he dismissed openers David Warner and Aaron Finch to give India the early breakthrough. However, from there on in, George Bailey (112) and skipper Steven Smith (149) shared a match-winning 242-run stand to help the hosts take a 1-0 lead in the five match ODI series. 16:20 hrs IST: And Australia have SEALED It!! Brilliant innings from skipper Steven Smith and George Bailey have sealed the first ODI in Australia's favour. Smith succumbed in the final over -- Barinder Sran the beneficiary, but by then the game had already slipped out of India's hands.
Smith made 149, while Bailey made 112 to cancel out Rohit Sharma's brilliant 171 not out to help Australia take 1-0 lead in the five match ODI series.  ÂÂ

16:10 hrs IST: Australia require 12 more runs to register a fantastic win in the first ODI with three overs to go. Skipper Steven Smith is still going strong on 144 and has a chance to score 150. Barinder Sran puts in a dive to save two runs off the bowling of Bhuvneshwar Kumar as hosts corss the 300-run mark.  Australia are 304/4 after 48 overs.
15:58 hrs IST: WICKET!!! Ashwin now gets the wicket of Glenn Maxwell for 6. Maxwell looking to be aggressive against the off-spinner was caught by Shikhar Dhawan at long-on.  Australia are 274/4 after 44 overs.
15:43 hrs IST: WICKET!!! Ashwin introduced into the attack and bowls one down the leg side -- Dhoni misses a stumping chance. It's been a day to forget for Indian spinners today. But as we speak, Ashwin picks up his first wicket as he had Bailey walking back for a brilliant 112. Bailey tried to clear the long-off fielder, but Bhuvneshwar was there to pick a good catch. Australia are 264/3 after 42 overs.
15:33 hrs IST: 200-run partnership! George Bailey and Steven Smith have added 200-run stand in 38th over.Meanwhile skipper Smith completes his fifth ODI ton -- consecutive ODI ton vs India -- as Aussies are looking to up the ante in the chase. Smith reached the landmark with a single off Umesh Yadav to reach the three figure mark off just 97 balls with six boundaries and one six. Australia are 242/2 after 39 overs.ÂÂ

15:30 hrs IST: Fun Fact: George Bailey has the best average amongst all the batsmen in ODIs vs India. The former Australian skipper has an impressive average of 97.66 from 8 innings.ÂÂ
15:20 hrs IST: Ton for Bailey!! George Bailey has smashed a brilliant ton in Perth. The former Australian skipper reached the landmark a couple off Umesh Yadav off just 106 balls. Bailey was lucky up front made full use of the chances to reach the three-figure mark. The 33-year-old reached the landmark with six boundaries and two boundaries. Australia are 213/2 after 36 overs.
15:15 hrs IST: 200 up for Australia!! What a partnership this has been for Australia. The hosts bring their 200-run mark in the 33rd over and at this rate they are cruising towards India's total. Bailey is seven runs away from his third ODI century, while Smith is looking good at 85. The duo have added 180 runs for the third wicket. Australia are 202/2 after 34 overs.
14:55 hrs IST: Jadeja now re-introduced into the attack as Bailey hits one in between point and gully region for three runs. Smith returns the favour with another single to keep the strike rotating. Australia are 185/2 after 32 overs.
14:50 hrs IST: Bailey and Smith are now motoring along. Ravichandran Ashwin surprisingly been expensive -- his last one producing 19 runs. The off-spinner has conceded 48 runs from his five overs.
No wonder MS Dhoni forced to turn to part-time bowling of Virat Kohli to provide a breakthrough. Kohli Australia were 167/2 after 28 overs. Smith is on 67, while Bailey is on 78.
14:35 hrs IST: Captain's knock from Steven Smith as he completes his half-century. Smith hasn't been at his best, but still has shown the willingness to grind it out and given the hosts a platform to launch a late onslaught. Australia are 139/2 after 25 overs. Smith and Bailey have combined well for Australia and are scoring at a decent pace as well. India at this stage were 98-1, so in that sense, not only are the hosts 10-12 runs ahead, but also keeping a tab on the asking rate. Meanwhile, Bailey has brought up his half-century off 60 balls. The former Australian skipper reached the landmark with a single off Jadeja.  Australia are 113/2 after 21 overs.

13:05 hrs IST: Welcome back to the chase!Barinder Sran runs in to bowl to Aaron Finch as the Australian pulls off his backfoot for a couple. Finch repeats the stroke -- but this time it's just a single. Sran is more or less on target to end the first over, giving just three runs away from his opening over.

12:30 hrs IST: It was carnage at the WACA as India posted 309/3 after they elected to bat first against Australia in the first ODI. Rohit played a chance-less knock as he took on the bowlers right from the word go. India lost Shikhar Dhawan early, but then Kohli and Rohit put on a 207-run stand for the second wicket to help India build base for a late onslaught.
Rohit brought up his ninth ton with a single off Joel Paris to become the first Indian to score a century in Perth in ODIs. Kohli looked good for his ton as well, but fell nine short of what would have been a great start to the Australian tour. Kohli had timed a full toss from James Faulkner well, but couldn't clear the long-on fielder and had to settle for 91.
Rohit meanwhile continued to smash the Aussie bowlers around and soon brought up his 150. Dhoni used the long handle to good effect, before he was dismissed by a stunning catch from Scott Boland.
12:24 hrs IST: End of India's innings. Rohit Sharma slammed a brilliant unbeaten 163-ball 171 to help India post their highest ODI total in Australia.
Their previous ODI total was 303/4, a game which India won by 19 runs. India are 309/3 after 50 overs; Rohit 171 not out, Kohli 91, MS Dhoni 18.
12:20 hrs IST: Wicket!!! MS Dhoni is sent packing courtesy of a brilliant catch by Boland off Faulkner. Dhoni pulled but Boland pulled off a stunner to send Indian skipper packing for 18. India are 286/3 after 48.2 overs; Rohit is on 157
12:05 hrs IST: 150 for Rohit!!! Three overs to go now and both Rohit and Dhoni are throwing the kitchen sink at everything. Boland to start off the 47th over and he starts off with a yorker to Dhoni -- just a single. Rohit gets a full toss and smokes it over long-off for a humungous six. He follows it with a single to bring his 150 off just 155 balls.
Couple of balls later Rohit smashes second six of the over as India score 15 runs from the over. India are 285/2 after 48 overs; Rohit is on 157, while MS Dhoni is on 18.
11:50 hrs IST: WICKET!!! Virat Kohli misses out on a much-deserved ton. Kohli was sent packing after he hit straight down Aaron Finch's throat off the bowling of James Faulkner for 91.
Kohli-Rohit's 207-runs stand was the fifth best stand in India vs Australia matches. India are 248/2 after 44 overs; Rohit is on 134, while MS Dhoni is on 4.
11:44 hrs IST: 200-run stand betweenRohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. They love to bat together and have been involved in numerous partnerships in the past. India 242/1 after 44 overs; Rohit is on 133, while Virat is on 89.

Sachin Tendulkar leads the list with nine tons, followed by Ricky Ponting with six and VVS Laxman with four boundaries. India 226/1 after 42 overs; Rohit is on 130, while Virat is on 79.
11:25 hrs IST: 200-up for India! After completing his century, Rohit Sharma has decided to up the ante. He smashed back-to-back boundary off debutant Boland. Couple of balls later, he flicked through long-leg for third boundary off the over. India 212/1 after 40 overs; Rohit is on 123, while Virat is on 76.

He found an able partner in Virat, who roared back into the form with a half-century. This was Rohit's 3rd ODI ton in Australia and now he has over taken AB de Villiers in terms of batting average in Australia. India 191/1 after 37 overs; Rohit is on 100, while Virat is on 72.
