Live Score: India vs Australia updates
Phew, that's all we have for you for this game, been a long summer and now we switch formats with the World Cup coming. Australia and India both will play an ODI tri-series with England. We look forward to your company for those games. The series starts on 16th January, 2015. Until then, it's goodbye and take care!
STEVEN SMITH is adjudged the MAN OF THE MATCH and the MAN OF THE SERIES! He starts off saying that it was a very good series win for them. Admits it was a tough day at the office for them. Credits India for playing for a draw today at the end. Adds that he was enjoyed batting on the flat decks in the series. He is happy that he is on the winning side. Is very proud of the way his team played as well. Adds that they too think they can win the World Cup as it is in their own backyard and they have been playing well.
Indian skipper, VIRAT KOHLI starts off thanking everyone for supporting them, thanks the crowd for a tough time to bring out the best from them. He says that he is proud of the way the boys played and hopes that Australia enjoyed the competition they got from them. Admits that they wanted to go for the chase, but were not 100 percent sure, but when Vijay got out they had to drop anchor and credits Kumar and Rahane for playing out for a draw. He says at times, when you see the finish line, you must go for it. Credits Rahane, Vijay for playing well. Adds that Rahul too came back well after his debut Test. Mentions that India have a good chance to win the World cup, if they believe in themselves.
AUSTRALIA WIN THE BORDER GAVASKAR TROPHY 2-0! The bat dominated the series all the way as the pitches had little help. Both Kohli and Smith scored 4 tons each in the series breaking plenty of records. Australia were tested by India in patches but every time India threatened to take the game away, someone stepped up for Australia. India will take heart from the batting performances but will hope that the bowlers learn and improve.
Smith continued to pile on runs for fun as both teams played a high scoring draw in the third Test at the MCG. India got out of jail thanks to a conservative declaration from Smith as Australia were left 4 wickets away from a 3-0 win. MS Dhoni retired from Test cricket after that series handing over the captaincy to Kohli who seems to revel in it so far. Both Australia and India again, continued to score runs at will. The penultimate day saw Indian bowling losing it and had a chase of 348, the Indians did start well but wickets fell and they kept the Australians at bay to settle for the draw.
What a series we've had! The series started with some sad news of losing Phillip Hughes. Tributes flew in, the tour was rescheduled and Adelaide got the chance to host the first Test. India started well there, with the bat that is and almost chased down a huge score thanks to a magical ton from Kohli in the chase only to fall short to a brilliant 12-for from Lyon. Australia then found a hero in Johnson at the 'Gabba when Australia were around 150 behind and he along with Smith propped them up to a winning position. Johnson then turned up with the ball too to seal the game for Australia and ensuring Australia get a 2-0 lead.
A high scoring draw again! Australia posted a huge total thanks to tons from Smith and Warner. Fifties from lower order allowed them to get past 550. India responded well with twin tons from Rahul and Kohli. The tail wagged for a bit and ensured the trail was just 97 runs. Australia then upped the ante with a superb knock from Burns who backed up a superb fifty by Smith. The Indians started the chase well but dropped anchor soon once they lost wickets in a flurry and settled for a draw.
Wait, the last ball won't be bowled. Smith comes across to shake hands and that's a DRAW! The players from the Indian dressing room come over to shake hands. The pair of Kumar and Rahane did well to bat out 69 balls to ensure that they did not lose any wicket and expose the brittle tail. India did have a go at the chase in the last session. But once they lost Vijay and Kohli, things did not look good. Raina and Saha collected a duck each and that set the cat amongst the pigeons but the pair of Rahane and Kumar played well to see through the session and earn a DRAW!
FOUR! Shorter outside off, Kumar goes back and now that there is no one in the deep and pulls it over the mid-wicket region for a boundary.
Flatter on off, Kumar turns it towards square leg off his crease. 2 balls to go!
