Goldberg returned to WWE Raw and challenged the reigning WWE champion Drew McIntyre for the championship. WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg made a surprise appearance on the Monday night show after the completion of the main event featuring McIntyre. The WWE Champion defended his title against Keith Lee in a gruelling contest. However, McIntyre's celebrations were cut short as Goldberg made his entrance to the ring shortly after and challenged McIntyre for the coveted title at this month's pay-per-view Royal Rumble.
"What a HUGE night for @DMcIntyreWWE on the first #WWERaw of 2021! #AndStill A hard-fought victory against @RealKeithLee and now a challenge from @Goldberg!" WWE tweeted.
McIntyre rebuked Goldberg's challenge saying he would have fought the WWE legend in his prime. "Fighting you would be like fighting my own DAD" said McIntyre to Goldberg.
However, McIntyre was soon shoved to the mat as Goldberg showed his strength.
The match is yet to be made official by the WWE but is likely to make for a great show at the Rumble.
The 2021 Royal Rumble will be aired on January 31 from The ThunderDome at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The showpiece event will also feature its signature 30-man Royal Rumble match and another 30-woman Royal Rumble match.
Earlier, McIntyre faced Lee in what WWE termed as a contender for the Match of the Year as both wrestlers traded blows and high-flying moves.
In the end, it was McIntyre's signature move, The Claymore, had put an end to Lee's challenge and helped McIntyre hold on to the championship.
