Sachin Tendulkar was on 8. Mitchell Starc was on his Test number 3. The battle in the second innings of the third Test eventually went in favour of the 21-year-old. According to certain reports in the Australian press, the Starc phone has not stopped ringing since.
In a report in Sydney Morning Herald, Starc was quoted as saying he was too busy celebrating too look at Sachin after the batsman was trapped leg before. "I didn't watch Sachin walk off, I was too busy celebrating in the huddle. It was a great moment," he said. With Harris having removed Tendulkar in the first innings, Strac denied him the pleasure of a deja vu to bring down India's third and possibly world's best batsman.
"I didn't think too much about Sachin as I waited to bowl at him, but he's been world class for 20 years. To have scored that amount of runs, he's a champion."
Once he scalped the wicket of the legend whose career in the sport spans almost as many years as Starc's age, the bowler's family has been overjoyed. According to the same report, Starc's girlfriend hailed the wicket as a sign of 'Mitchell's arrival' while his mother is believed to have celebrated the wicket by dancing in the lounge room. Starc's manager has been recieving calls from foreign teams inquiring about the bowler from New South Wales.
Considering that Starc had an ordinary series against New Zealand to kick-start his career, the celebration and reaction on the bowler's one in eight wickets in 3 Tests may seem an exxageration. Then again, the fact that a master with 99 international tons to his credit, mis-read a delivary is enough for the world to sit up and take note. Enough at least for Mitchell and the Starc's anyway.
