Mumbai Indians played comprehensive cricket against Rajasthan Royals on Monday to register a 25-run win at Motera's Sardar Patel Stadium. The victory was crucial as it helped the defending champions take the sixth spot in the points table - a position from which a mathematical entry into the playoffs may be possible. Skipper Rohit Sharma though said he wants to focus on each match before considering that possibility.
"In the first half of the tournament, we were bowling really well, but the batsmen were not stepping up; but now it's all falling in place," Rohit said in an interview published on iplt20.com. "It is important that we stay together as a team and enjoy each other's moments of success and enjoy this victory."
Mumbai have been lackluster in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. The team however has shown some fighting spirit in its previous few games and the match against Rajasthan on Monday was the best example. Opting to bat, Mumbai posted 178/3 with the top-order firing on all cylinders. The bowling then came together to knock out Rajasthan's power-hitters.
Hoping that the momentum from defeating hosts Rajasthan will propel his side forward, Rohit said he hoped his side is able to meet with similar challenges with similar intensity.
"Beating Rajasthan on their home ground is a good feeling and we have to enjoy that," he pointed out. "We just want to stick together and enjoy the moment and not think about qualifying. We just need to focus on the games that we are playing and keep our heads straight," added the 27-year-old.
