Australian batsman David Hussey is likely to get a chance to play for Chennai Super Kings on May 22 and 24 in the Indian Premier League 2014 when New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum returns home for the birth of his child. Hussey was picked as a replacement for injured all-rounder Dwayne Bravo by Chennai Super Kings.
"The talk started a while ago, actually, with Dwayne Bravo having a sore shoulder," Hussey told iplt20.com referring to Chennai's move to include him in the squad.
The Australian T20 star arrived in India recently to honour a commentary commitment for the host broadcasters of the IPL.
"Stephen Fleming (CSK coach) rang me and asked if I would be interested in playing. I was lucky enough to be here commentating, and now, I can't wait to play. I have sort of spoken to Fleming and he said that I will be a middle-order player, and with Brendon McCullum due to go home for the birth of his baby, I'll definitely get an opportunity to play," Hussey said.
David's elder brother Michael Husseywas one of Chennai's finest overseas players, scoring 1691 runs in 46 games between 2008 to 2013, but the southpaw was not retained by the two-time champions, for inexplicable reasons. (Also read: Mumbai Indians must believe in Hussey: Ravi Shastri)
