Sandeep Sharma, Man-of-the-Match: I am lucky to get back-to-back awards - am enjoying this moment, playing for Kings XI. It was a big moment dismissing Gayle. I have seen him play so many times and it was awesome for me.

George Bailey, Kings XI Punjab captain: It is all working out well and we are working well as a unit. Sehwag is very calm; with him at the top you know you will get your boundaries. We have had a good start to the tournament. It will be good to get back to India now.

Virat Kohli, Royal Challengers Bangalore, captain: The momentum can turn around pretty quickly in this format. We did not apply ourselves in the batting department but the bowlers did well to drag it till the end. It is important to back yourself - these couple of games have been a phase where we have tried a few things but they have not come off for us. Aaron and Chahal have been putting their hearts on the field. It is really pleasing to see both of them bowling so well for us.

Kings XI Punjab win by five wickets. Royal Challengers Bangalore were completely outplayed as Kings XI kept their calm and overcame a modest target of 125 despite a few tricky phases. RCB, after another mediocre batting performance, bowled and fielded well to repeatedly jolt the Kings XI chase but Virender Sehwag (32) and David Miller (26) played aggressively before Rishi Dhawan (23 not out) and George Bailey (16 not out) stayed cool at the end to steer their team home with seven balls to spare. This was Kings XI Punjab's fifth successive win - they had won the last three games last year and that means they have now won eight on the trot, an IPL record.

23:21 IST: FOUR! A shocker from Aaron - he slides down the leg side and Bailey latches on to it. Kohli can't believe it. KXIP are close now.

23:20 IST: KXIP are 115/5 off 18 overs and need 10 to win off the last two overs. They are still favourites but it could yet be a tricky chase.

23:12 IST: Starc finishes his quota, 4-0-15-0 as KXIP reach 105/5 off 16 overs. Yuvraj will continue.

23:07 IST: KXIP are 101/5 off 15 overs and despite a few nervous moments in the middle, look poised for another win.

23:05 IST: FOUR! Poor line from Yuvraj as Dhawan plays it away to the fence. These are useful runs for Kings XI, who are edging closer to another win. 100 up for KXIP in the 15th over.

23:04 IST: Yuvraj comes on after the timeout. RCB are still in with a chance but they have to be on the button because they don't have too many runs to play with.

23:01 IST: FOUR! Short of length from Dinda and Rishi Dhawan sends it racing to the fence. Good short and he gets an appreciative nod from his captain at the other end. Strategic timeout with KXIP on 93/5 off 14 overs.

22:56 IST: WICKET! Chahal gets another one and this time it's the well-set Sehwag for 32 as KXIP suddenly find themselves in a spot on 88/5, with37 still needed from seven overs.

22:52 IST: WICKET! Chahal gets one to spin sharply as Miller edges it to the 'keeper for 26 off 20 balls. KXIP are 85/4 off 12.2 overs, but the good news for them is that Sehwag is in the middle and he will now be joined by Bailey.

22:50 IST: FOUR! Miller is taking Morkel apart here. This game could get over very quickly if he stays in the mood. Kohli is running out of ideas very soon and the KXIP fans are beginning to sense another victory here. They are 84/3 after 12 overs.

22:48 IST: FOUR! Morkel back into the attack and is welcomed by fellow South African Miller with a crunching shot. FOUR! Miller is now in a hurry to finish this match off.

22:45 IST: KXIP are 70/3 after 11 overs and they have finally settled down after the initial loss of wickets.

22:44 IST: FOUR! Slightly off the mark from Chahal and Miller sends it crashing to the fence.

21:34 IST: Royal Challengers Bangalore are 124/8 off their 20 overs. After being put in to bat, RCB came up with another poor performance, this time against Kings XI Punjab. A lot was expected of Chris Gayle, who was playing in his first game of the IPL 2014. However, after a frenetic start to the innings, when he took 20 runs off the first over from Glenn Maxwell, the southpaw was castled by Sandeep Sharma in the second. That dismissal triggered a top order collapse as Virat Kohli, Yogesh Takawale and Parthiv Patel followed soon after. There was a hint of a stand between AB de Villiers and Yuvraj Singh but when the South African exited, the writing was once again on the wall for the Royal Challengers. Yuvraj top scored with 35 but he perished to Rishi Dhawan not long after as RCB were restricted to yet another modest total.

Chris Gayle admits he was rusty: I batted a lot in the nets but I was a bit rusty, no doubt about that. I was on the go (having taken Maxwell for 20 in the first over), so I tried to calm myself down.

Chris Gayle admits on air: I got a bit carried away. I was given a bit of a license to take it away from ball one and I just wanted to stay aggressive, stay with the momentum, which unfortunately did not happen today.

20:05 IST: Sandeep Sharma for the second over. Parthiv Patel dutifully takes a single and hands strike back to Gayle.

20:03 IST: SIX! That is the Chris Gayle we know. He sends that packing over the ropes. Brutal from Gayle. SIX! Gayle goes aerial again as Maxwell leaks 20 off the first over - a taste off his own medicine for the Australian.

20:02: FOUR! Streaky from Gayle again, as he clears the in-field. But the big West Indian is playing true to character.

20:01 IST: Glenn Maxwell with the new ball and FOUR! Not very convincing from Gayle but the edge runs away to the fence, past a diving Sehwag at slip.

Preview: Kings XI Punjab keen to continue good form

Left in disarray after consecutive losses, Royal Challengers Bangalore face the arduous task of taming the yet-to-be-beaten table-toppers Kings XI Punjab when the two sides clash in an IPL match here on Monday.

The contrast in their fortunes could not have been deeper going into Monday's match given that Punjab are yet to taste defeat this IPL while Bangalore have lost two matches on the trot.

Forget horror show against Royals, Kohli urges RCB

 

The Royal Challengers Bangalore will be hard pressed to bounce back after a disastrous defeat against Rajasthan Royals. RCB were bowled out for 70, their lowest ever in the IPL, and they will need to come out all guns blazing against Kings XI Punjab. Virat Kohli has already urged his team to forget the horror show against the Royals and come Monday, the players will be expected to follow Kohli's lead and come up with a spirited performance against Kings XI.
