The West Indies were in all sorts of trouble when they were reduced to 11 for three in the third over. However, a crucial 75-run stand between Dwayne Bravo and Samuels for the fourth wicket brought the Windies back into contention.
England struck back with three quick wickets to take the initiative. However, Brathwaite and Samuels had other plans and an unbeaten 54-run partnership for the seventh wicket off just 25 balls took the Windies to their second World T20 triumph. The West Indies had won the title previously in 2012.
Earlier, put into bat, England lost dangerman Jason Roy on the second ball of the match while Alex Hales compounded the problem by being dismissed in the second over.
Captain Eoin Morgan too failed to live upto expectations as England found themselves with just 23 runs on the board and three wickets down. Joe Root and Jos Buttler bailed England out from their precarious position with a 61-run stand of just 40 balls.
Root anchored the innings with a 36-ball 54 while Buttler smashed 36 off 22 balls. But the English lower middle-order crumbled without much of a fight.
Pacer David Willey struck a few lusty blows to take England to a fighting total of 155 for nine.
