"Took a bullet for Indian colleagues," the Australian rues in article
An Australian reporter who was called onto stage at a press conference by Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni feels like "I took a bullet for my Indian colleagues".
Why? He asked Dhoni if he was planning to retire from limited overs cricket after India was evicted from the T20 World Cup by the West Indies.
Sam Ferris was then asked to join Dhoni on stage. Uh oh. "I'm welcomed with a warm embrace, a sympathetic arm around my shoulder and a crisp white smile, the same smile I've seen on a dozen commercials featuring Dhoni on Indian television selling a vast range of products," he recalls in an article for Cricket Australia.
Dhoni then told the reporter that unless he could offer a son or a brother to replace him, he'd keep his job, thanks very much.
The 34-year-old Indian captain said he wished the question had been asked by an Indian journalist because then his answer about a replacement would have been more spot on.
"Even though I fired the wrong ammunition, it seems I took a bullet for my Indian colleagues," Ferris writes.
