On Thursday, Murali Vijay, Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Pankaj Singh all went back without troubling the scorers while Gautam Gambhir (4) and Varun Aaron (1 not out) didn't reach double figures. (Dhoni stands tall amid flurry of zeroes)
Only three batsmen -- skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (71), Ajinkya Rahane (24) and Ravichandran Ashwin (40) had respectable scores against their names.
The last time that India had five batsmen out for duck was during the 1999 Mohali Test against New Zealand. India posted a strong 505/3d in the second innings after a paltry first innings score of 83. The match was drawn.
Pankaj Roy, Dattaji Rao Gaekwad, Madhav Mantri, Vijay Manjrekar and Gulab Ramchand were out for duck in a total score of 165 in the second innings of that Test match.
India were 0/4 at one stage with Fred Trueman and Alec Bedser running riot.
