Following are the statistical highlights of the second day's play between India and Australia in the Sydney Test.
# Ricky Ponting (134) has become the first Australian and the third batsman to register 40 Test hundreds or more, joining Sachin Tendulkar (51) and Jacques Kallis (41).
# Ponting's aforesaid hundred is his first in two years - the last being 209 in the first innings against Pakistan at Hobart in January 2010. In his previous 33 innings, his highest was 89 in the second innings against Pakistan at Hobart.
# Ponting has registered seven hundreds in 27 Tests against India. His tally includes two double hundreds in the same series - 257 (a career-best) at MCG and 242 at Adelaide in December 2003 - the only batsman to accomplish the feat in the same series against India.
# The batsmen with seven Test hundreds or more against India are - Vivian Richards (8), Gary Sobers (8), Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Clive Lloyd, Everton Weekes - all West Indians and Ponting.
# Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting now share a record for most hundreds (22) at home, followed by Matthew Hayden (21) and Brian Lara (20).
# Michael Clarke's fourth century against India is his 18th in Tests.
# Clarke's 251 not out off 342 balls is his first double century in Tests, obliterating the 168 against New Zealand at Wellington in March 2010.
# Clarke has recorded ten centuries in 39 Tests in Australia.
# As captain, Clarke has recorded four centuries in ten Tests - one each against South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and India.
# Clarke's aforesaid hundred is his second at SCG - his first being 138 against South Africa in January 2009.
# Clarke's innings is the highest by an Australian captain against India and the second best by a captain in Tests against India, next only to Graham Gooch's 333 at Lord's in July 1990.
# Clarke is the third Australian captain to register a double hundred against India - the first two being Don Bradman (201 at Adelaide in 1947-48) and Greg Chappell (204 at Sydney in 1980-81).
# Apart from Gooch, Bradman, Greg Chappell and Clarke, Clive Lloyd, Graham Dowling, Carl Hooper and Kumar Sangakkara have recorded double hundreds against India in Tests.
# Clarke's innings is the highest by an Australian at SCG, bettering the 242 by Doug Walters against West Indies in February 1969.
# Clarke has become the fourth batsman to post an innings of 250 or more at SCG - the top three innings are 287 by England's Tip Foster in December 1903, 277 by West Indian Brian Lara in January 1993 and 251 by England's Wally Hammond in December 1928 - all three against Australia.
# Clarke and Ponting were involved in a stand of 288 for the fourth wicket - Australia's highest against India, obliterating the 210 between the same pair at Adeaide in January 2008.
# Australia's previous highest partnership for any wicket against India at SCG was 217 for the first wicket between David Boon and Geoff Marsh in January 1986.
# Bill Lawry and Doug Walters had shared a stand of 336 against West Indies in February 1969 - Australia's highest fourth wicket partnership at SCG. The all-time fourth wicket partnership at this venue is 353 between VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar for India in January 2004.
# Clarke and Ponting have shared four century stands for the fourth wicket - two against India and one each against Pakistan and South Africa - their highest is 352 against Pakistan at Hobart in January 2010. Of the four stands of 100-plus shared by them, three are more than 200.
# Ponting's 134 off 225 balls is his sixth century at SCG - two each against South Africa and India and one each against Pakistan and Zimbabwe. His tally of six centuries is a record at SCG.
# Ponting's overall Test record at SCG is quite impressive - 1480 runs at an average of 67.27 in 16 Tests, with 207 against Pakistan in January 2005 as his highest score. He has extended his record for the highest run-aggregate at this venue.
# Ponting's magnificent 134 is his first century in six years at SCG. In January 2006 against South Africa, he had recorded a hundred in each innings - 120 & 143 not out.
# Ponting, for the first time against India, has recorded five innings of fifty or more in succession in Tests - 77 & 72 at Bangalore in October 2010 followed by 62 & 60 at MCG and 134 at SCG.
# Michael Clarke and Michael Hussey have shared a stand of 157 (unbroken) for the fifth wicket - Australia's third highest against India at SCG - the highest is 190 between Justin Langer and Ricky Ponting in January 2000.
# Michael Hussey's fifth fifty against India is his 28th in Tests.
# Australia's 482 for four is their second highest against India at SCG, next only to the 552 for five declared in January 2000.
# Ravichandran Ashwin (28-4-103-0) has conceded 100 runs or more in a Test innings for the third time but for the first time he is wicketless even conceding 100 runs.
# Ishant Sharma has captured three wickets in three innings in the present series at an average of 65.66 -his strike rate being 117.0
# Umesh Yadav (18-2-94-0) has recorded his worst bowling performance in Tests.
# Australia have taken a lead of 291 - their second highest against India at SCG, next only to the 402 in 1999-2000 - Australia (552/5d) had defeated India (150 & 261) by an innings and 141 runs.
