"Well done my son," is how a proud father Sharad Dravid reacted when asked about legendary batsman Rahul Dravid's career on his retirement from international and domestic first class cricket on Friday.
"Rahul had passion for cricket from childhood. He wanted to play for the country. Am proud he fulfilled the dream," an elated Dravid senior told IANS.
Recalling Rahul's commitment to the game, the proud father said right from his young days at St Joseph Boy's High School in Bangalore, Dravid junior was a serious boy both at studies and sport.
"His school teachers told me once that my son would be either in the class or in the ground playing cricket. He would go nowhere and nothing mattered to him," a nostalgic Sharad Dravid remembered.
Though Dravid's father used to be worried about son's future, especially his career, he encouraged him to play as much seeing Rahul's love for the game.
"When Rahul was in St Joseph's College of Commerce, I used to get worried about his future, what career he would take up if he did not click in cricket as it was tough to get into teams and make it to the top. But he proved me wrong as he was a first class student in studies and a quality batsman," Dravid senior observed.
