Ricky Ponting has his eye firmly set on the upcoming series against India. He therefore plans to celebrate his 37th birthday in a pre-Boxing Day Test batting camp.
The former Australian skipper according to the Herald Sun will fly to Melbourne on Monday to participate in a three-day batting camp. Despite scoring over 12,000 runs in Tests, it was only confirmed recently that Ponting can be assured of his place in the playing XI against India in the Test beginning from December 26.
Ponting changed his birthday plans as he was originally scheduled to play for the Tasmanian Hurricanes against the Sydney Sixers on Wednesday but instead chose to attend the camp as he reportedly feels the need to get as much training as possible before the clash against MS Dhoni's side.
Interestingly, Ponting has two half-centuries from his last five innings but his role in the side came under scrutiny after the lost Hobart Test against New Zealand. He however, has been backed by coach Mickey Arthur.
