He slammed a patient 110 off 194 deliveries against India in his debut Test at Roseau, Dominica. His knock helped the West Indies draw the final Test and the 26-year-old Kirk Edwards is grateful for a chat with VVS Laxman for his spirited efforts.
According to a local report in the Trinidad Express, Edwards says that understanding the thinking that goes behing how Laxman bats helped him compose his innings. "Having half the ability that VVS has would be a great thing but to understand the thinking behind such a great man and I thought I had a brilliant chat with him the other night so I give thanks to that also," he was quoted as saying by the daily.
The Barbadian said that the advice from the wristy Indian right-handed batsman was not anything that he had not already heard before. It was special, he says however, to have recieved it from a man who has tons of experience in international cricket. "To be honest, I bat time. I am not here to speak about how other people play because that it is not my position to speak about that but I bat time and I go about it in a way that I bat session by session. Runs will come once you are at the crease," he asserted.
Edwards also chose to mention the off-field chemistry that the players from the two sides share between each other. ""Generally, West Indians and the Indians, we have a good relationship. We get along well, so I wasn't really surprised at the reception that I got from those guys," he said adding that he admired the Indian team and how it has improved it's fielding to compliment it's already powerful batting and bowling line-up.
