Trailing by 124 runs, Australia ended Day 1 of the ongoing third Ashes Test match posting 61 for one at Stumps against England at the MCG in Melbourne, on Sunday. The hosts lost the crucial wicket of David Warner, who was dismissed by James Anderson after registering 38 runs off 42 balls. Marcus Harris and Nathan Lyon will resume batting for Australia on Day 2. Earlier, England were bowled out for 185. Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon were the pick of the Australian bowlers, taking three wickets each. Mitchell Starc took two while Cameron Green and debutant Scott Boland also picked a wicket each to put Australia in the driver's seat. For England, captain Joe Root was the standout, scoring yet another fifty. But the rest failed to take make their starts count as the batting line-up crumbed again. England are already trailing 0-2 in the five-match series following defeats in the first and second Test in Brisbane and Adelaide, respectively. (SCORECARD)

After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, the bowlers stepped up to the occasion and it was Pat Cummins who set the tone. Then Mitchell Starc took the dangerous wicket of Root and Bairstow. Scott Boland got his maiden Test wicket and as the tail started to wag a bit more. Nathan Lyon came back and swept them away.
