David Warner slammed 102 off 166 balls as Australia ended Day 4 on 290/5 with an overall lead of 363 runs against India. Warner's innings on Friday lasted 166 balls and had 11 fours along with one six. This was his 11th century in Tests and third against India. (Warner Feels he is the Best Form of his Life)
By scoring two tons in the same match, Warner became only the fifth batsman to slam a century in each innings twice in a calendar year. He hit 135 and 145 against South Africa in March this year. The other four players to have achieved this feat are Clyde Walcott in 1955, Sunil Gavaskar in 1978, Aravinda de Silva in 1997 and Ricky Ponting in 2006. (Warner Slams Ton)
This was also Warner's sixth Test ton in 2014. Ponting has the most hundreds by an Aussie in one year - seven in 2006. Matthew Hayden (2002) and Ponting himself (2003) have six each. (Warner, Aaron, Dhawan Engage in Sledge Fest)
With back-to-back centuries, Warner is the second Australian to score two tons in the same match against India. Don Bradman was the first to do so in 1948 when he scored 132 and 127*. (Match Report | Scorecard | Highlights)
Friday's innings also took Warner past the 1000-run mark this year. Currently his tally in 1061 with an average of 75.78. In addition to his six tons, the left-hander also has three fifties.
It was not a chanceless innings as Warner was bowled off a no-ball by Varun Aaron on 66 and dropped by Murali Vijay on 89. But he eventually got to three figures, and even though he departed soon after, Australia were in a commanding position.
