13.02 (IST): Stumps! Australia finish of 354/6, courtesy a scintillating ton from David Warner (145). Michael Clarke (60) too looked in fine touch until a back strain forced him to retire hurt. Steve Smith carried the Australian innings forward and is unbeaten on 72. For India, Ishant Sharma was the best bowler of the day, finishing with figures of 1/56. Varun Aaron (2/95) and Mohammed Shami (2/83) rounded off frustrating starts with late wickets. With an set Steve Smith in the middle and Mitchell Johnson still to come, Aussies are in command despite some late stutter. Onus on Indian bowlers to strike early on Day 2 and wrap up the Aussie tail. An interesting Day 2 ahead.
12.50 (IST): OUT! Nightwatchman Nathan Lyon is gone for 3. Mohammed Shami cleans him up. Australia 352/5
12.38 (IST): Oh dear! Varun Aaron is limping and Ishant is definitely tiring here. Just five overs to go in the day.
12..25 (IST): OUT! Mitchell Marsh (41) is gone, caught by Virat Kohli in the slips. Australia 345/4
12.19 (IST): Surreal proceedings at Adelaide as Steve Smith reaches 63. The crowd breaks into a continuous applause. Smith looks skywards. Aus 336/2
12.10 (IST): New ball taken! And straight away Kohli brings Ishant Sharma into the attack. Aus 326/3.
11.45 (IST): 300 comes up for Australia. This is domination of very high quality from the hosts. Steve Smith brings up his 9th Test fifty while Marsh is also looking set for a milestone of his own.
11.30 (IST): Mitchell Marsh and Steve Smith are building a good stand here. Warner's exit has hardly made a difference to Australia's position in the game. Aus 297/3.
11.05 (IST): Steve Smith is getting a move on here. The maiden Test wicket has given Karn Sharma an extra spring in his leg but Smith is going after him. Karn continues to toss it up. Interesting contest between the two. Aus 275/3.
10.51 (IST): Maiden Test wicket for Karn Sharma! And what a big wicket! He brings an end to Warner's scintillating knock of 145. Can India peg Aussies back now?
10.42 (IST): Karn Sharma has started well in the final session. He's trying to strangle the two batsmen in the middle.
10.30 (IST): Virat Kohli is running out of options here. He turns to part-time spinner Murali Vijay.

10.15 (IST): Another session of complete domination for the Aussies. The minor blip was the unfortunate fate of Michael Clarke after a back strain forced him to retire on 60. Warner has moved on to 131 and has Steven Smith for company. Australia reach 238/2 at tea.
10.05 (IST): Karn Sharma is not enjoying a great debut. He can't earn a vital breakthrough for his skipper and Warner is taking him on. Aus 233/2.
09.45 (IST): Oh dear! This is rather unfortunate for Clarke. He seems to have strained his troubled back. The physio was immediately out to take a look but the Aussie skipper can't go on. He walks off, retired hurt on 60. Steven Smith is the new man in.
09.20 (IST): FIFTY for Michael Clarke! It's his 28th in Tests. Australia 182/2
09.15 (IST): Warner now has five centuries and three fifties in his last 10 innings. What a champion!
09.10 (IST): Century for David Warner! What an emotional moment for the Aussie! He is almost in tears as he kisses the Australian logo on his helmet. Australia 171/2.

08.45 (IST): FOUR! Warner continues to play through covers on a swift outfield. He moves on to 94. Aus 161/2.
08.32 (IST): FOUR! Michael Clarke drives one down the ground off Mohammed Shami to move into the 20s. Warner meanwhile, is inching towards a Test ton.
08.10 (IST): Play resumes! Can India strike and remove Warner early in the second session?
07.40 (IST): Australia have taken the honours in a compelling first session. Here's taking you through it via twitter.
- What's a series without a prediction?
My thoughts before a ball being bowled in #AUSvIND Test series is an Australia win. India would do good to get a win at the least.

Might as well say it while there's a chance : Ishant bowling well...

There is a small section of the crowd, I think on the hill, that are cheering every bouncer.

07.34 (IST): End of first session! Australia take lunch at 113/2 in 24 overs, thanks to an excellent unbeaten innings of 77 from David Warner. For India, Ishant (1/17) has been the pick of the bowlers.
07.25 (IST): Warner's flurry of fours continues. He attacks the rookie leg spinner to move into the 70s.
07.17 (IST): FACTOID: Michael Clarke has scored 1279 runs in 9 Tests in Adelaide at 98.38, including 6 tons.
07.15 (IST): A big round of applause as Warner looks to the skies after reaching 63. Aus 90/2
07.10 (IST): OUT! Varun Aaron strikes! Shane Watson (14) is gone, fishing outside the off-stump. He edges one to Dhawan at second slip. Aus 88/2
06.48 (IST): Fifty for Warner! He gets there with a boundary off Aaron. Warner's 14th Test fifty has come off 45 balls. Australia 79/1.
06.46 (IST): Big appeal for LBW as Watson plays across the line. Ishant is convinced but umpire Marais Erasmus is not. Australia 71/1.
06.41 (IST): Shane Watson has started well here. He is getting good strides forward and is driving well through the off-side. India need another wicket before lunch here.
06.32 (IST): The first hour of play has well and truly belonged to the Aussies courtesy David Warner's ability to dispatch every second delivery to the cover fence. Ishant Sharma has looked the best bowler of the three pacers, conceding just 2 off 11 balls to Warner and dismissing Rogers. Australia 64/1.

06.30 (IST): Ishant welcomes Watson with an excellent short ball. Watson rightfully ducks.
06.28 (IST): Interesting field setting for new man Shane Watson. Both Aaron and Ishant have a catcher at short mid-wicket in a bid to lure Watson to play across the line and force an LBW dismissal.
06.16 (IST): Ishant Sharma strikes! Chris Rogers is gone, caught by Shikhar Dhawan at slips. He is gone for 9. Aus 50/1.
06.11 (IST): Fifty up for Australia! It's only the eighth over! Long day ahead for Kohli & Co.?
06.09 (IST): Rogers gets into the act. His first boundary is an excellently-timed straight drive off Shami.

06.02 (IST): It's only the 6th over and there is already a bowling change. Ishant Sharma comes on. He starts off with a maiden to Warner.
06.01 (IST): Meanwhile, Sean Abbott has returned to the field and held the ball again in the Sheffield Shield.
05.56 (IST): India pacer duo of Shami and Aaron haven't started well in terms of line and length against Warner. The attacking left-hander has duly punished them with a flurry of boundaries.
05.49 (IST): Warner is on fire! He smashes his fifth four. Australia sprint away to 31/0 off 3 overs.
05.47 (IST): Warner is in a hurry here. After hitting Aaron for three fours, he dispatches two more off Shami. He's on 21, with five fours.
05.42 (IST): Interesting to see both Shami and Aaron start off from round the stumps.
05.40 (IST): FOUR! David Warner starts off in trademark style! He punishes a full ball from Varun Aaron, driving it through covers for four.
05.39 (IST): Good start from Mohammed Shami. Early hint of swing and pace. He concedes two off the first over.

05.36 (IST): Before the start of the game, a fitting tribute was paid in memory of Phillip Hughes.

05.11 (IST): Early signs of aggression from Kohli, the Test captain. Picking an uncapped leg spinner over Ravichandran Ashwin comes as a bold statement.

04:05 (IST): India are all set for a long, gruelling series of Australia. Just under an hour to go for toss. A lot of Phillip Hughes tributes are lined up too in what promises to be a surreal day of cricket in Adelaide.
India, currently placed sixth in Test rankings, have a lot to prove. Their overseas record is hardly impressive and past performances in Australia have left a lot to be desired. With a chance to break into the top three, the tourists would be itching to get their campaign off to a strong start. In the absence of Mahendra Singh Dhoni - who will sit out of the match, Virat Kohli will lead the side as India's 32nd Test captain.
