Bogota:
Roberta Vinci won the Copa Colsanitas on Sunday when top-seeded Tathiana Garbin pulled out of the all-Italian final in the third set because of a digestive problem.
Garbin, the tournament's runner-up in 2000, led 7-6 (5), 4-6, 3-0 when she withdrew from the match on the advice of a doctor after her second medical consultation of the day.
"I felt sick since Saturday night," Garbin said. "I got better on Sunday morning but in the second set, when I was winning 3-0, the problem came back. I fought to try and finish the match but it was impossible."
Struggling opponent
Garbin, ranked 29th by the WTA Tour, looked more polished than Vinci, who struggled with her serve during the outdoor match on clay courts.
"I achieved my first title in the WTA, but with what happened to Tathiana, it is not something I can fully enjoy," said the 64th-ranked Vinci. "I would have liked it if we were playing under the same conditions."
Vinci claimed a winner's prize of $25,850, out of an overall purse of $175,000.
