Bihar Government to Honour Shooter Shreyasi Singh With Rs 11 Lakh Award

Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Friday announced that the state government will honour Shreyasi Singh, who won a silver medal in recent Commonwealth Games shooting competition, with an award of Rs 11 lakh.
Speaking at 'Khel Samman 2014' organised in the state capital to honour sportspersons, Manjhi praised Singh, who hails from Bihar, and said she has done the state proud and the award will be just a symbol of recognising her talent, hard work and achievement.
"We want Bihar and its players to excel in sports. Our population is around 11.5 crore but the achievements are not in that proportion. The state has progressed but we need to do much. We have to provide nutritious diet to our sportspersons. We need to have dynamism and transparency in our work," said Manjhi.
The Chief Minister gave away awards to 312 sportspersons including 136 girls at the function. International athletes Shailendra Kumar and specially-abled Mansi, as well as, IAS officer Ravindra Kumar, who is a reputed mountaineer, were among the awardees.
The state sports awards function are organised every year on the occasion of the birth anniversary of famous hockey player Major Dhyanchand.
Manjhi directed Art, Culture, Youth Affairs Minister Vinay Bihari, his Secretary Chanchal Kumar and Director General Bihar State Sports Authority Kumar Rajesh Chandra to form a delegation to remove the problems faced by the sportspersons and make a proposal to provide the things needed by them.
