Poland's sports minister has offered to resign because she feels politically responsible for a delayed football match between Poland and England last week.
The World Cup qualifier, originally scheduled for Oct. 16 at the new National Stadium, was postponed a day because of heavy rain and a failure of the pitch to drain properly. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Sports Minister Joanna Mucha says she could not have done anything about the mishaps, which included not closing a retractable roof, but nonetheless feels "political responsibility."
Prime Minister Donald Tusk is expected to announce Wednesday afternoon whether he will accept her resignation. The delay had embarrassed Polish football and angered the sellout crowd of 55,000. On Oct. 18, Tusk ordered an investigation into what happened.
