Delhi Daredevils captain Virender Sehwag said the return of Sri Lankan Mahela Jayawardena and Englishman Kevin Pietersen will give his side the much needed boost to get back to the winning ways in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Daredevils lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore Saturday and looked thin in the batting department. The Delhi franchise had won their first match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens.
Jayawardena and Pietersen, who were on the opposing sides in the recently concluded drawn Test series between Sri Lanka and England, arrived here Sunday.
"Mahela (Jayawardena) and KP`s (Pietersen) return will give a boost to our side. Any captain would love to have them in his side," Sehwag said on the sidelines of Idea Cellular`s three-year association with the Daredevils.
"Lot of young players are looking forward to share the dressing room with them," he added.
Sehwag, who will still be missing his explosive opening partner David Warner, said that he was confident of beating the defending champions Chennai Super Kings in their first home match at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium here Tuesday.
"We are looking to start our campaign in Delhi with a win tomorrow."
Jayawardena, who played for the banned outfit Kochi Tuskers last year, said that he and Pietersen needed to take some load off Sehwag's shoulders.
"Both KP and I have the responsibility to help Viru in decision making on and off the field," he said.
Jayawardena praised the blend of youth and experience in the team, but said that the youngsters needed some guidance.
"We have good blend of youth and experience in our team and we as senior players just need to guide the youngsters," the Sri Lankan added.
