IPL 5: Jayawardena, Pietersen arrive to join Delhi Daredevils

Mahela Jayawardena and Kevin Pietersen were opponents till recently in the Sri Lanka-England Test series but arrived to join the Delhi Daredevils squad on Sunday and will now feature in the Indian Premier League as teammates.

Mahela Jayawardena and Kevin Pietersen were opponents till recently in the Sri Lanka-England Test series but arrived to join the Delhi Daredevils squad on Sunday and will now feature in the Indian Premier League as teammates.

With solid batting averages in the drawn series, both batsmen are in good form and are expected to bolster Delhi's chances after the team lost to  Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday.

Jayawardena said he was looking forward to working with some of the best in international cricket. "I am looking forward to a good season with the team. It will be wonderful working with some wonderful cricketers with so much collective experience," said the centurion from the first innings of the Colombo Test.

Pietersen, the other player to score a ton in the first innings of the same Test, said the Delhi team is strong and that the chances of winning matches are bright. "I know we have a good unit and am happy that we got off to a good start in Kolkata. I am looking forward to spending some time with young cricketers in Delhi."

Delhi have two points from two matches in IPL.
