What was to be promotional joy ride became more of a chaotic ride as Delhi Daredevils skipper Virender Sehwag along with a few of his teammates boarded the Delhi Metro on Friday, ironically, to help raise awareness among the commuters about etiquettes of travelling.
The very reason of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) tying up with the Delhi Daredevils was to raise awareness about keeping the trains and platforms clean, not obstructing trains' doors and standing behind the yellow line at platforms. But the purpose seemed completely defeated as soon as the Daredevils team members came to board the Metro at the INA station.
Hundreds of fans gathered around the cricketers to get a glimpse of them, while autograph seekers pushed each other to get closer to the players -- result was an out-of-control situation.
Even as the scheduled Metro arrived, the last compartment of which was reserved for the cricketers, the policemen deported inside failed to control the crowd and the media, both of who forced their way into the train.
The cricketers, on their part, ironically also kept mum during their brief ride in the Metro from INA to Udyog Bhawan, which is merely two stations.
Sehwag, all along, kept his head down and hardly spoke to even his teammates, while Irfan Pathan, Umesh Yadav and Yogesh Nagar only waved to the fans.
After their promotional ride, the cricketers rushed out of the metro station without uttering a word, leaving the fans and media unfulfilled but the security personnels relieved.
