According to a reports, during Kings XI Punjab's match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Alok Aich, a 53-year-old constable, got hit on his right eye. The Kolkata Police employee is currently undergoing treatment at an Alipore hospital in South Kolkata, and is believed to have lost his vision after being hit by the Miller six. "This is a very tragic incident", Special Additional and Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police Rajeev Mishra has been quoted as saying. "It is extremely saddening to learn that he has lost his right eye. We are going to extend all kinds of help to him and his family. We will make sure he gets the best treatment at the hospital."
Aich, the injured constable, is a driver of the Deputy Commissioner of the 5th Battalion of Kolkata Police, Debashish Sarkar, and was on duty on the G-Block of the Eden Gardens when the incident occurred.
He was immediately shifted to Cricket Association of Bengal's (CAB) medical centre, and then was taken to the hospital. He was first admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), later shifted to the general ward.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who is also the joint secretary of the CAB, has expressed grief about the incident and described it as extremely sad. However, he said that the South African batsman, Miller, should not be held responsible for the unfortunate accident.
