Dominant India outclassed the Windies by an innings and 272 runs in on the third day of the opening Test to register their biggest ever win in Test cricket on Saturday. Registering an emphatic win against a clueless Windies team, India now have a 1-0 lead in the two match Test series. After a brilliant bowling effort in the first innings, Indian spinners repeated their performance in the second, bundling the visitors out for 196 runs in the final session at Rajkot. The Windies batsmen showed no fight and surrendered in front of the Indian spinners losing 14 wickets on Day three of the Test. Kuldeep Yadav (5-57) claimed his maiden five-wicket haul as he ran through the Windies batting order in the second innings. After dismissing the Windies for 181 in the morning session, Indian skipper Virat Kohli enforced the follow-on. The visitors showed no signs of improvement and carried out the casual approach in the second innings as well. Kuldeep Yadav tore apart the batting order as none of the batsmen were able to read the wrist spinner. Kieran Powell (83) fought a lone battle as wickets tumbled for the Windies like a pack of cards at the other end. Along with Kuldeep, Ravindra Jadeja (3-35) and Ravichandran Ashwin (2-71) picked wickets at regular intervals helping India register a comprehensive win.Â

08:45 IST: The Windies were 94 for six at stumps on Day 2. India will look to wrap up the the visitors early on Day 3 and take a massive lead. Â
08:30 IST: Hello and welcome to the live updates of Day 3 of the first Test between India and the Windies.
A maiden five-wicket haul from Kuldeep Yadav tore apart the Windies batting order as the visitors went to tea with 185 runs on the board for the loss of 8 wickets on Day 3 at Rajkot. Kieran Powell (83) was the only bright side for the Windies as the rest of the team yet again succumbed in front of the Indian spinners. Resuming on 33 for one, the visitors lost three wickets for 18 runs right at the start of the post-lunch session. Shai Hope (17), Shimron Hetmyer (11) and Sunil Ambris (0) departed in quick succession leaving their side reeling at 97 for four. Kieran Powell and Roston Chase tried to fight back with a 41-run partnership but Chase gave away his wicket playing a poor shot against Kuldeep. Towards the end of the session, Kuldeep dismissed well set Powell claiming his fifth wicket in the second innings. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin too chipped in with the wickets of Keemo Paul (15) and Devendra Bishoo (9) respectively as India tightened their grip on the match. Earlier, India enforced the follow-on after they dismissed the Windies for 181 in the first innings.Â
Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed skipper Kraigg Brathwaite (10) early in the second innings as Windies went into lunch on Day 3 with 33 runs on the board for the loss of one wicket in their second innings at Rajkot on Saturday. Dismissing the visitors for 181 in the first innings, Indian skipper Virat Kohli enforced the follow-on after securing a mammoth 468-run lead in the first innings. At the start of the day, Windies resumed on their overnight score of 94 for six wickets. Roston Chase and Keemo Paul started aggressively, hitting boundaries against the Indian spinners. Both Chase and Paul stitched a 73-run partnership for the seventh wicket taking their team towards the 150-run mark after a dismal start on Day 2. But Umesh Yadav finally got rid of Keemo Paul (47) with a bouncer giving India their first breakthrough of the morning. Post the departure of Paul, Ashwin wrapped up the Windies tail picking up the remaining three wickets. Roston Chase (53) was the highest scorer for Windies while Ashwin bagged four wickets in the first innings.
India displayed an all-around performance on the second day of the first Test to put visitors Windies on the back foot at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Friday. India, resuming on the overnight total of 364/4, were boosted by Virat Kohli's 24th Test ton and Rishabh Pant's patient 92 to pile up runs against the Windies. Apart from Kohli and Pant, India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made the most of the opportunity as he too scored 100 not out off 132 balls, with India declaring at 649/9. The West Indies, who are without their captain Jason Holder, never looked in place as they ended Day 2 with a first innings score of 94/6, trailing India by 555 runs.
The Windies are in all sorts of trouble, first against pacer Mohammad Shami and then the spinner, who cleaned up the middle order on day 2. The Indian bowlers will aim to quickly wrap up the Windies tail in the first session and enforce a follow-on so that they can bowl the tourists out twice by the end of Day 3. Shami, who bowled a fiery opening spell of four overs and ended the second day with two wickets, will be eyeing more wickets in the first session on the third day's play. Apart from the pace department, the lower order Windies batsmen will also have to be wary of India's spinning lethal spinning department.
Earlier, in the morning session of Day 2, Kohli and Rishabh Pant (92 off 84) had taken India to 506 for five. Kohli, who was 72 not out overnight, took time to knock off the 28 runs needed for yet another hundred while his partner Pant, who resumed at 17, went all guns blazing. A second Test hundred in his fourth Test was for the taking but Pant, attempting another six over mid-wicket, failed to pick the googly and top-edged it for a simple catch to Keemo Paul at backward point. His entertaining innings was laced with eight fours and four sixes.
