After pulling off a big win against Pakistan, Team India faces an even bigger test. On Sunday, Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men will face the mighty South Africans at the Melbourne Cricket ground. Although the moral must be sky high after beating their arch-rivals, the odds favouring the team aren't.
According to the global odds, South Africa, expectedly, are the favourites. The predictions suggest that they have a 63% chance of winning the game while only 37% believe that India might be able to enforce a positive result. It might sadden fans but going by their track record against the Proteas in the World Cup, India go into the game as well and truly the underdogs. India has met South Africa thrice in 50-over World Cup encounters and have failed to register even a single win.
Even on the head-to-head one day international records, India have faced South Africa 72 times but the team has only been able to come out victorious in 25 matches. Clearly, South Africa hold the edge over India going into this game. In the last five ODI games between the two sides, the Proteas have won three while the Indians have squeezed out a single victory. Back in 1992, South Africa defeated India by 6 wickets in the World Cup encounter at Adelaide, the only ODI played between the two teams in Australia.
