Afghanistan will make their maiden appearance in ICC World Cup next year. Passionate fans at home got a first-hand feel of the trophy as it toured the national capital of Kabul on Saturday.
According to local media reports, The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) chief executive Dr Noor Mohammad Murad brought the trophy from Dubai to Kabul and said he was hopeful of the national team doing well in the tournament - scheduled to be played between February 14 and March 29.
The trophy was taken to the presidential palace as national cricketers including captain Mohammad Nabi Eisakhil posed enthusiastically with it.
Afghanistan are one of four associate teams that qualified for the tournament - to be played in Australia and New Zealand. The other teams are Ireland, Scotland and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Under new coach Andy Moles, the team will now look to make an impression even if winning the title remains a distant dream for now.
