The inaugural Singapore S-League Quadrangrular tournament kicked off on Tuesday with the hosts, Singapore Young Lions facing Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan Hyundai. Seventeen minutes after kickoff, Beijing opened their account when Chinese international 13 Xu Yunlong headed home this corner kick to make it 1-0. Ninety seconds later, the visitors added another when skipper 15 Tao Wei found Serbian striker 36 Branko Jelic who knocked home to make it 2-0. That's how it stood until the 76th minute, when Beijing added another through a glancing strike from substitute 37 Shang Yi to make it 3-0. Two minutes later the Young Lions, Singapore's Under-23 side that plays in their domestic league, got one back via this foul on African import Greg Nwokolo. That gave 7 Shi Jia Yi a penalty which he easily converted to make it 1-3 Beijing. But that's as close as it would get as Beijing Guoan Hyundau defeat Singapore's Young Lions 3-1 to advance to Friday's final of the Singapore S-League Quadrangular. Chinese side Liaoning will take on a Singapore S-League XI on Wednesday to determine the team that will play opposite Beijing in what is being billed as final tune-up before both countries open domestic league play next month.
