India vs England 5th ODI, Highlights: India Lose Despite Ravindra Jadeja Heroics as England Claim Consolation Win
Ravindra Jadeja smashed 87 in a spirited effort but India could not avoid a 41-run defeat against England in the fifth and final ODI at Leeds. The tourists claimed the series 3-1. Catch all the highlights from Headingley.

2226 IST: WICKET! A heroic Jadeja effort has come to an end after he was castled for 87 by Steve Finn; India all out for 253 and they have lost by 41 runs. However, they take the series 3-1.
2216 IST: Jadeja is on fire here; he has taken 15 runs off Stokes in the 47th over as India move ahead to 239/9.
2210 IST: SIX! That's a huge one and into the stands. Jadeja has brought up his 10th ODI fifty. SIX! That one was even bigger as Jadeja sends it over long-on. India are 221/9 in 45.4 overs.
2207 IST: WICKET! Ben Stokes has picked his third wicket; Shami is gone for a duck and India are 209/9 in 44.4 overs as Yadav walks in to join Jadeja.

2145 IST: This is now a lost cause for India. Jadeja and Ashwin are still in the middle with but with 103 runs needed from 9 overs, England are the heavy favourites to win this one.
2127 IST: WICKET! Massive, massive blow for India, who have lost MS Dhoni for 29. That could be the end of all their hopes; the captain was batting beautifully with Ravindra Jadeja but his exit means that the world champions are now reeling at 173/6 off 36.5 overs.
2121 IST: MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja have started to look good despite losing five wickets. India have moved to 169/5 off 36 overs and they are still in there with a chance.
20:59 IST: SIX! Big shot from Dhoni as he clobbers Tredwell into the stands. India need their skipper to fire; 140/5 in 31.3 overs.
2055 IST: WICKET! This is big, big trouble for India. Ambati Rayudu has fallen for 53 as Ben Stokes strikes and England are well and truly in control of the game now. India are reeling at 132/5 of 30.2 overs.

1953 IST: India are still not completely out of the chase. Suresh Raina, who has walked in to join Rayudu in the middle, is capable of playing match-winning innings; he has played plenty of them.
1949 IST: WICKET! It's all over for Dhawan. Two balls after slogging a SIX, Dhawan tried to play another aggressive shot and ended up gifting his wicket to Moeen Ali, India's nemesis in the Test series. India are 49/3, chasing 295 as Dhawan exits for 31.

1931 IST: India are 29/2 off 9 overs, chasing 295. Sanjay Manjrekar, on air, said the onus to deliver should be on the men in-form and that was why Rahane's dismissal was disappointing; he played a poor short to depart when India were scoring such a big total.
1928 IST: MS Dhoni said India were not tested in the ODIs by England. Well at 28/2 off 8 overs, chasing 295, India's world champions tag is being put to a rigorous test by the hosts. Who will stand up for the visitors?

1912 IST: A watchful start for India after an early loss. Kohli and Dhawan have had to be watchful after Rahane fell for a duck.
1904 IST: India never lose an ODI when Dhawan scores a half-century. On seven occasions in the past, India have always reached home. The last instance was two days back, when Dhawan remained unbeaten on 97 and India won by nine wickets.
1900 IST: This is a great chance for Virat Kohli to play a big innings and lay the foundation for an Indian win. He has done that in the past a lot of times, but a run of poor form in England has raised some eyebrows. England, however, will be wary of the Delhi batsman.

1619hrs IST: Spinners have managed to put the brakes on England's scoring. Cook was hitting the ball with confidence but since Ashwin and Raina came in to bowl, has either not been able to dispatch the ball or has revealed a rare shocking shot for a single. Did you know? 1610hrs IST: India employ spin from both ends now as Suresh Raina comes in.

England need him to play a captain's knock today. With scores of 19, 44 and 9 in the previous three matches, he needs to last the distance today if England are to repair the early damage.
1530hrs IST:OUT! His 7269 first-class runs does not count for much today as Moeen (9) falls to Bhuvneshwar. A wide delivery and the batsman throws his willow at it, only to be caught at third-man by Umesh. England 39/2.

1514hrs IST: Positive start from both Cook and Hales. They have hit the ball with intent in the early overs. With starts of 19, 44 and 9 in the previous three matches, Cook would be looking to last the distance today. There's no pressure of a win, of course.

1458hrs IST: Did you know? If India win today, it will be the team's second-ever ODI clean sweep overseas. The first was a 5-0 win in Zimbabwe last year.
1450hrs IST: India have made a remarkable comeback in ODIs after the Test rout. Gavaskar says the team is not just about limited-overs cricket. "We are not just an ODI nation. It is just that our technique in Tests need a bit of correction," he says. "Our batting in ODIs have been outstanding. There's no reason why our batsmen can't score against the red ball."

1441 hrs IST: Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar says it is hard on Dhawal Kulkarni to be dropped after playing just one match. "It is tough on him," he says. Umesh gets a match in his place. "Don't think Dhoni will use Umesh as the opening bowler. He has to be the first change today," adds Gavaskar.

1420hrs IST: Toss in 10 minutes and it is the perfect time to look at the weather. It is currently 13C at Leeds with a bit of fog. While the first of the five matches was washed out, the remaining clashes have had no permanent halts due to the weather. It is unlikely for a halt to happen today either.

Series sealed, it's time for Team India to plan for the future. A winning scoreline always looks great, but when you look at the bigger picture, there are many leaks to plug. Victory can be a double-edged sword. (Read: ODI wins great but don't forget Test rout, says Gavaskar)
England's abject surrender in the limited overs format could give young Team India some false confidence. But wise men like Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Duncan Fletcher certainly know the bigger goal. The target is to retain the 2015 ICC World Cup Down Under and this win in England can at best be the start of good things to look forward to for the remainder of the season. A lot of plusses have emerged from the ODI series. Success always breeds positives. Young players like Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan have openly aired their views of having Ravi Shastri as a team guru. If Shastri's inclusion as director has infused fresh energy and motivation, then it's indeed great news. Dhoni and chief coach Fletcher gelling with Shastri and new support staff will be critical going forward. India have to address three big issues ahead of the World Cup. The opening combination, the middle order and the death bowling. The first two issues have been somewhat addressed. Rahane's century at Edgbaston suggests that he is a good bet to face the new ball. Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu have hit the right note to suggest that Virat Kohli won't be short of support at No. 4 and 5.

England's horrible batting means India's death bowling has not been tested. But Ravindra Jadeja's nagging line and length continue to be effective in the shorter format and the silver lining for India has been the crisp fielding, something that was missing during the Test series.
In terms of milestones, Dhoni is on an upward drive. The nine-wicket win at Birmingham was India's 50th against England in 90 matches. It was also India's 91st win under Dhoni, who became India's most successful winning captain in ODIs. He went past Mohammed Azharuddin, who had led India to 90 ODI wins.

There is news that India could test their bench at Leeds. If Dhoni decides to tinker with the line-up, then Sanju Samson and Karn Sharma could make their ODI debuts. England's best total in this series has been 227. Their bowlers have taken all of 11 wickets in three matches.
There is a lot of work to do for the home team.
India have played seven ODIs at Leeds. They have won three and lost four. England have a better win-loss (15-10) record at Headingley. A consolation win on Friday may just give embattled Cook some relief.
