After conceding a first innings lead of 215, India were bowled out for a paltry 161, to concede the fourth Test by an innings and 54 runs. England now lead 2-1 in the five-match series. (SCORECARD).
23.10 (IST): Alastair Cook in post-match presentation: You don't often get nine wickets in a session. The buzz was fantastic. We didn't think we'd get it done but it's great to do it today. Jimmy hasn't been very well, so for him to bowl like he did, and not having Stuart, was a great effort. The work Moeen is doing, I've never seen a bloke learn as much in such a short space of time. When the wicket has had something in it, he's been fantastic. It was outstanding bowling on the first morning and we really got ahead of the game.
23.05 (IST): MS Dhoni in post-match presentation: I think even in the first innings we weren't up t the mark in the batting department. I feel so far in the series our batting had not really clicked. We need to get better. It's a difficult one to know what's gone wrong. A few of them are going through a lean patch. Outside India, this group has gone well until here. The wickets have been good for batting but we haven't applied ourselves. Consistently we are exposing Pujara to facing the new ball, our openers are not getting partnerships. Virat, it's something he has to go through, I personally feel he is middling the ball but you do go through these patches.
22.58 (IST): What a dramatic turnaround of events since the Lord's Test! It's hard to fathom the fact that MS Dhoni and Co. were 1-0 up in the series at one point in time. Since their memorable win at Lord's, it has been a downward slump, giving England two back-to-back wins that puts the series beyond India's reach now.
22.45 (IST): Two wickets in two balls! It's all over! Jordan removes Aaron and Pankaj Singh in two balls to give England a win by an innings and 54 runs. Take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
22.41 (IST): Amid all the carnage, Ravichandran Ashwin has looked like he has batted on a different wicket. He moves into the 40s to put on a stubborn fight. India 156/8.
22.30 (IST): After 23.00 hrs IST, England will have an extra half-an-hour to try and wrap up the Indian innings and the match as the visitors are already eight down. India 141/8 with Ashwin and Varun Aaron in the middle.
22.22 (IST): Shambolic running! Bhuvneshwar Kumar is run out! Poor, poor cricket from India at time when they are desperate to save the Test. Bhuvneshwar (10) is run out. India 133/8. England just two away from a big win.
22.15 (IST): Lucky! Bhuvneshwar Kumar survives a chance! He is caught by Ian Bell in the slips off Jordan but replays suggest Jordan overstepped. No Ball! India 131/7.
21.58 (IST): A minimum of 27 overs remain today. If Bhuvneshwar and Ashwin can survive it, India could still save the Test thanks to expected showers in the next two days.
21.57 (IST): OUT! MS Dhoni (27) is gone now! He charges down the track and hit Moeen Ali out but cannot beat Gary Ballance at mid-wicket. India 105/7.
21.37 (IST): Dhoni and Ashwin need to try and keep their wicket intact for another hour and a half or so to deny England a win today and then hope for rain to do the rest in the next two days. Remember, the weather forecast suggests 100 % chances of rain. Wonder if Dhoni has been informed about this update.

21.23 (IST): OUT! Ravindra Jadeja is gone now! He is caught by Chris Jordan off Moeen Ali. India 66/6
21.17 (IST): Kohli goes! India are struggling here! The Indian No.4 falters again, edging an Anderson delivery to Ian Bell at second slip. He falls for 7, India 61/5.
21.11 (IST): Another wicket! What has Moeen Ali done to this Indian team? He takes a catch off his own bowling to send Rahane back to the hut. India 61/4.
21.01 (IST): Replays suggest the ball would have missed the stumps. Rahane walks in yet again in a situation to bail his side out. He joins Kohli.
21.00 (IST): OUT! Pujara also goes! He is trapped leg before wicket by Moeen Ali for 17. India 53/3.
20.55 (IST): Gambhir is gone! He was in two minds but ended up edging an Anderson delivery to Jos Buttler behind the stumps for 18. India 53/2.

20.09 (IST): India reach 33/1 at tea with Gambhir and Pujara in the middle, trail England by 182 runs.
20.05 (IST): FACTOID: The last time an Indian opening pair put together a partnership of fifty or more in an overseas Test was in July 2011 at Lord's when Gautam Gambhir and Abhinav Mukund put on 63. That was 31 innings ago.
19.45 (IST): Murali Vijay is gone! He is trapped in front of the stumps by Chris Jordan for 18. India 26/1.
19.30 (IST): Indian openers have started rather cautiously here. They have eight runs on the board in seven overs without the loss of a wicket.
19.15 (IST): Is it all lost for MS Dhoni & Co.? Maybe not. Here's an interesting statistic. England have lost five Tests after taking a first innings lead of more than 200 while batting second. Three of those losses have come against India.
19.00 (IST): The Indian batsmen are out in the middle. Can Gambhir and Vijay hold fort and defy England on a tricky Day 3?
18.54 (IST): The Jadeja-Anderson rivalry lives on! The India left-arm spinner traps his nemesis leg before to end England's innings on 367, lead India by 215 runs.
18.43 (IST): Anderson and Woakes are throwing their bat around at everything. India bowlers are digging it short a lot frequently now but the batsmen are swinging their willows in search of quick runs. Lead is now past 200. England 357/8, lead by 206 runs.
18.24 (IST): James Anderson has come out as Broad has been forced to leave the field due to an injury to his nose.

18.15 (IST): Drama here! Broad smashes two back-to-back sixes off Varun Aaron over deep midwicket but the next ball he goes for the same shot and it goes straight in through his helmet gap off an edge. Broad is bleeding here as the medical staff.
17.32 (IST): Lunch time! England reach 325/8 at the end of first session on Day 3, lead India by 173 runs.
17.28 (IST): Pankaj Singh has struck again! He has his second Test wicket! He has sent Jos Buttler for 70, caught by Pujara at mid-off. England 325/8.
17.06 (IST): WICKET for Pankaj Singh! He has finally broken his Test duck. Joe Root is gone, caught behind for 77. England 304/7

17.00 (IST): England bring up 300 runs on the board and a lead of over 150. ÂÂ
16.28 (IST): Root and Buttler have added more than 100 runs for the seventh wicket. England 276/6, extend lead to 124 runs.
16.24 (IST): The new ball has been good for the hosts so far. They've added 25 runs in the last five overs.
16.00 (IST): India have taken the new ball. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Pankaj Singh start the proceedings with it. England 258/6, lead India by 106 runs.
15.40 (IST): Root has been in excellent form in the series, with scores of 154*, 13, 66, 3,56 and 53*. Here's how he score his runs in this innings.
15.36 (IST): FIFTY for Root! His excellent run of form continues. He gets his seventh Test fifty. (England 241/6).

England's hopes of taking the initiative were washed out by the rain as a torrential downpour after lunch left the outfield unplayable. After bowling India out for a lowly 152 in the first innings, England hoped to build a healthy advantage but a lengthy rain delay meant play was abandoned with the hosts 85 runs ahead on 237 for six.
Unbeaten Joe Root (48) and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler (22 not out) will resume Day 3 looking to build on their 67-run partnership. Root is enjoying an outstanding season this year, aggregating 599 in just six Tests at an average of 85.57, including two hundreds and two fifties. Root's record against India is superb, amassing 433 in five Tests at an average of 86.60, including a hundred and three fifties. He is going to India's biggest hurdle at Manchester.
On a damp Friday, India's brightest spark was rookie pacer Varun Aaron. The 24-year-old produced his best bowling performance in Tests, obliterating the 3 for 106 versus West Indies in Mumbai in November 2011.
Aaron, who bowled at around 140 kmph, was a good support for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has captured 18 wickets so far in the series. Kumar shares an Indian record for most wickets in a Test series against England in England. Zaheer Khan had captured 18 in three Tests in 2007.

India will hope for another rewarding morning session on Saturday. Kumar and Aaron forked out three crucial wickets on Friday. The big wicket was that of Ian Bell (58). Kumar tempted him into playing at a ball outside off stump and he edged it to wicketkeeper MS Dhoni.
Root and Moeen Ali nudged England ahead but Moeen (13) was dismissed when Aaron clean bowled him with a brutal in-swinging delivery. Root and Buttler took the hosts safely to lunch. England resumed on 201 for six after the break, with Root and Buttler comfortably rotating the strike but their progress was halted by the heavy rain.
The five-match series is level at 1-1. Saturday could be the turning point of this match and probably the five-Test series.
