Former India Test captain Rahul Dravid told NDTV in Bangalore on Thursday that reports of him being reluctant to coach the senior national team were untrue. He, however, clarified that for the moment, he was focused on coaching the India 'A' and the under-19 teams -- a responsibility he "was excited about."
Earlier this week, the BCCI named Dravid as coach of India A and under-19 team. Dravid has mentored the Rajasthan Royals team in the Indian Premier League and the BCCI's decision was perhaps influenced by this.
Once the pillar of Indian batting, Dravid denied that he was not keen on coaching the senior team, currently playing a Test match in Bangladesh.
"I don't know where it came out that I was reluctant (to coach the national team). I did not read any report which said I was reluctant to take up the job. (But) Right now, I am just looking at India A", said Dravid. (Also read: Ravi Shastri likely as India's next head coach)

Within days, the Board mandarins drafted in Dravid for the Colts and developmental sides and extended Ravi Shastri's contract as Team India director. Current media reports link Shastri as Team India's next head coach.
Asked if coaching the under-19 side was a new chapter in his life, Dravid said he has been mentoring Rjasthan Royals and so, it was not a new challenge.
"I have been at the other side of the fence for some time now. I have been coaching Rajasthan, mentoring them. So, this will not be a new chapter at all," Dravid said.
"It will be an opportunity to do a hands-on role and share my experience," Dravid said, adding he was keen to work with youngsters and "help players on their journey."
During his playing days, Dravid shunned the spotlights in spite of his lofty standards. The 'Wall' seems to be in the same mood as serious coaching responsibilities are bestowed on him.
