Ashes 2015: Brad Haddin to Sit Out in Birmingham, Peter Nevill Will Keep Again
Peter Nevill has impressed the Australian team management so much that Brad Haddin will sit out in the third Ashes Test in Birmingham. The series is tied 1-1 with England winning the first Test in Cardiff and Australia hitting back at Lord's.

Brad Haddin's Test future is looking increasingly bleak as Australia have chosen to retain young wicket-keeper Peter Nevill for the third Ashes 2015 Test starting in Birmingham on Wednesday. Nevill made his Test debut in the second Test at Lord's that Australia won to level the series 1-1. (Full Ashes Coverage)
Haddin missed the Lord's Test when his daughter Mia was admitted to a London hospital. Nevill grabbed the opportunity with both hands as he took seven catches and scored a 45 in difficult conditions as Australia won the Test match to cancel England's lead in the series. Nevill's approach has obviously impressed skipper Michael Clarke and although he is not part of Australia's selection panel, coach Darren Lehmann and chief selector Rod Marsh took Clarke's views on the wicketkeeper's position. (England Aim to Overcome Mitch Hitch in Third Test)
"Rod and Boof came and spoke to me and told me what they were thinking," Clarke said. "It's obviously a lot harder for me because I have that attachment to Hadds, I've grown up playing cricket with him, we've spent a lot of time together and I love the fact that he's still here working hard. If an opportunity comes he'll grab it with both hands.
"On the other hand, Nev made the most of his opportunity in the second Test, I thought he batted really well and I thought he kept exceptionally well. So it's a tough one when you sit in the middle, but that's the way the selectors have gone and I respect their decision."
Clarke and Haddin have had a fruitful relationship for four years. Haddin has been Clarke's deputy several times but the wicketkeeper has clearly lost his sheen in recent times. Bad form and family reasons have derailed Haddin in the past, but the 37-year-old has scripted amazing comebacks. With focus on youth, Haddin faces another uphill task ahead.
