Australia skipper Michael Clarke has gained three positions to jump to number two in the latest ICC Test rankings, which is headed by South Africa's Hashim Amla.
Clarke scored a splendid 187 in the drawn third Test against England at the Old Trafford to win the Man of the Match award. His 24th Test century brought Australia close to winning the third Test before rain came to England's rescue as the hosts secured a draw to retain the Ashes.
Australia may have lost all chances of reclaiming the Ashes, but for Clarke the Old Trafford Test provided significant numbers which he can use to inspire his teammates.
He is the only Australian to go past 300 runs -- 319 -- in the present series at a healthy average of 63.80 in three Tests, including a hundred and a fifty.
Meanwhile, England's Ian Bell has returned to top-10, while Kevin Pietersen' 23rd century at Old Trafford has earned him two places to 14th spot.
Australia all-rounder Steven Smith is now 48th after gaining 14 places while wicketkeeper Brad Haddin is in 49th place (up by two).
In the Test bowlers' rankings, Australia paceman Ryan Harris is the biggest mover as he has jumped four places to achieve a career-best 11th rank. England off-spinner Graeme Swann's match figures of six for 233 has put him ahead of team-mate James Anderson in sixth position.
Dale Steyn has maintained his numero uno position with fellow South Africa pacer Vernon Philander behind him at second.
