He saw his fellow batsmen dig in and score big runs against Australia. For England's Jonathan Trott, the third Ashes Test provides another platform from which he can join the party at the visitors' expense.
Currently the fifth highest scorer for England in the two Tests - behind Ian Bell (317), Joe Root (221), Stuart Broad (122) and Johnny Bairstow (139)- Trott has scored 106 from four innings. The 32-year-old veteran of 45 Tests admits that the mistake lies within. (Also read: We will do everything we can for a whitewash: Anderson)
"I get myself out sometimes, if I am brutally honest," he was quoted as saying by UK's Daily Mail. "That's something I try to pride myself on not doing. It's frustrating but I feel in the past that I have contributed. Now, other people like Joe Root and Ian Bell have stepped in. Perhaps, it is my turn for the rest of the series."
While England have dictated terms in the first two Ashes Tests, Australia's misery seems set to continue. Now, Trott wants to fill his insatiable hunger for runs and hopes his hard-work pays dividends. (David Warner likely to rejoin Australia squad before third Test)
"Generally, when I've got a start and felt pretty good, I want to kick on. On a personal note, it is pretty upsetting because you have done all the hard work and you're feeling pretty good."
Trott scored 48, 0, 58 and 0 in each of his four outings - a sign that he has been unpredictable. This is in sharp contrast to his performance in the Champions Trophy where he hit 229 from five innings at an average of 57.25. The No. 3 batsman would is now hoping to rediscover the same consistency that he displayed in ODI colours to rub off in the Ashes campaign.
The third Ashes Test starts from August 1 at Old Trafford.
