Melbourne:
Australian teenager Bernard Tomic will face Roger Federer in the fourth round of the Australian Open after a 4-6, 7-6 (0), 7-6 (6), 2-6, 6-3 win over Alexandr Dolgopolov on Friday.
Tomic reached the last 16 at his home Grand Slam for the first time in his career after a cat-and-mouse match against the 13th-seeded Ukrainian.
The 3-hour, 49-minute match featured a number of lengthy rallies, with each player trying to outmaneuver the other by using an unusual variety of shots.
Dolgopolov needed treatment for a back injury during the fourth set and though he won it, he faded in the decider against the 19-year-old Tomic.
