Melbourne:
Eighth-seeded American Mardy Fish became the biggest casualty in the men's singles draw as he crashed out in the second round of the Australian Open here on Wednesday.
Fish lost to Colombian Alejandro Falla 6-7(4-7), 3-6, 6-7(6-8). He was in trouble from the very beginning and made 25 unforced errors and served with only 54 percent first-serve efficiency in the first set. The second set was the same story as the Colombian broke Fish in the fourth game to take a 5-2 lead.
The third set was a much tighter affair with the World No.8 looking more assured but Falla produced some powerful ground strokes to finally take the third set in tie-breaker and recorded an unlikely win.
