- Rahul is the second Indian opening batsman after Virender Sehwag (109 in 2010) to post a century at Colombo (PSS)
- Thanks to his two centuries, Rahul is averaging 35.71 in Tests - his tally being 250 in seven innings.
- Rahul has emulated Rahul Dravid's feat of two centuries as an opener in first away Test innings. Dravid had scored 128 not out at Lahore and 103 at Faisalabad - both vs Pakistan in January 2006.
- Virat Kohli, in the course of his 78, has completed his 600 runs in his first five Tests as captain - his tally being 647 (ave.80.87) in eight innings, including four hundreds and a fifty.
- Kohli is the third Indian batsman after Sunil Gavaskar (723 at an average of 103.29) and Mohammad Azharuddin (651 at 81.38) and the 11th in all to complete 600 runs or more in first five Tests as captain.

- Kohli and Rahul put on 164 - India's highest third-wicket partnership vs Sri Lanka at this venue, obliterating the 162 between Vinod Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar in 1993. In fact, the stand is India's highest for any wicket in Tests at Colombo (PSS).
- In the three innings for the third wicket in the present series, India have managed 395 runs at an average of 131.66. Dhawan and Kohli put on 227 for the third wicket in the first innings of the Galle Test.

- The average opening stand in the first innings during the last ten years at Colombo, PSS is just 13.50 - worst at any ground during the last ten years (minimum ten innings).
