India may begin as favourites against hosts Sri Lanka in the three-Test series starting from Wednesday. All plans and strategies though may come to a naught if the sky over Galle - venue for the first Test - continues to maintain its menacing grey stance. (Also read: Murali Vijay ruled out of 1st Test)
On Tuesday, Galle experienced thunderous rain with ground staff repeatedly rushing to cover every part of the cricket stadium here. The weather forecast has predicted thundershowers for the entire week. (The rankings game!)
According to the meteorological website Skymetweather.com, repeated rain interruptions are likely to play havoc to the on-field cricket. "Players and fans can expect multiple interruptions during the match. In any case, the entire series will be riddled with multiple spells of rain," reads a report.
As such, Kumar Sangakkara's farewell series may well turn out to be a damp squib. The veteran Sri Lankan will bid adieu after the second Test against the Indians. (Also read: Sangakkara - Sri Lanka's best ever?)
