Zaheer Khan, playing his comeback Test after a year's gap, completed 300 wickets in his 89th Test when he trapped Jacques Kallis LBW on the final day of the opening match against South Africa. The 35-year-old joined Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh in the list of India's most successful bowlers in the longest format of the game.
With four wickets in the first innings, Zaheer came into the second looking to make short work of South Africa's batting. Although the dismissal of Kallis appeared controversial - replays showing that the ball had kissed the inside-edge of the bat before hitting the pads, the euphoric celebration around Zaheer was exceptional. After all, he also became only the third left-arm seamer to reach the milestone - Pakistan's Wasim Akram (414 wickets) and Chaminda Vaas (355 wickets) of Sri Lanka being the other two.
Zaheer has enjoyed considerable success against South Africa in Tests with 38 wickets. His highest haul though has come against Australia (61 wickets) followed by England (43 wickets), so far.
Among the cricketing nations, Zaheer is placed 27th with Sri Lankan spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan topping the chart with 800 scalps.
