The India-South Africa Test series begins December 18 and India will look to leave behind the ODI series loss and start afresh. India were beaten comprehensively in all departments by the Proteas and bouncing back for the Test series will not be easy. NDTV takes a look at the top five things that the hosts were better at during the ODIs.
NUMBER FIVE: FIELDING: PROTEAS GREAT, INDIA POOR
South Africa have traditionally been one of the best fielding sides in the world and they showed it in this series yet again.
From skipper AB de Villiers on the boundary when the match was comfortably in the bag, to Quinton de Kock behind the stumps, the Proteas threw themselves at every thing.
India are now considered a good fielding side but they lacked the firepower in the Rainbow Nation. Two dropped catches in the third ODI gave Quinton de Kock the opportunity to score three consecutive centuries. (Click here for full coverage on India's tour of South Africa)
NUMBER FOUR: HASHIM AMLA & AB DE VILLIERS POWERED SOUTH AFRICA
Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers enjoyed a good run-of-form with a century and a half-century each which proved crucial in South Africa posting healthy totals in all three ODIs.
NUMBER THREE: TOOTHLESS INDIAN BOWLING
India's bowlers looked toothless during the series as they conceded 939 runs in the series with as many as five centuries scored. Barring Mohommad Shami and Ishant Sharma all the Indian bowlers went for more than six runs per over through the series.
NUMBER TWO: SOUTH AFRICA PACE ATTACK DEMOLISHED INDIA
India's formidable top-order failed to counter the pace and bounce of Dale Steyn-led South African bowling attack. Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma were the in form batsmen amassing runs in every match before the series but here the trio together scored a shocking 80 runs. Barring Mahendra Singh Dhoni not other batsman scored a half-century.
NUMBER ONE: SOUTH AFRICA'S ROCK, QUINTON DE KOCK
Quinton de Kock's hat-trick of tons deflated India. The 20-year-old amassed 342 runs in the series, while the entire Indian team made 30 less. De Kock also created a new world record for most runs in a three-match series.
