For 342 runs in the series Quinton de Kock is the man-of-the-series. He said: I just have to keep working hard to get a couple more hundreds. I'm quite relaxed and happy on the inside. I'm more happy that we have won the series. I tried to survive earlier and get through the opening passage of play. I'm not sure how this series will impact my career.

MS Dhoni after the match: "We were positive about our chances in the chase, however we had not chased well in the first two ODIs. This was a good wicket. We had a few positives out of the game, we got early wickets and exposed their middle order a bit. We need to adjust to the conditions ahead of the Tests. Playing ODIs first helped us. We got used to the pace and bounce on these pitches. Need to do well in the Tests. Ishant was expensive in the Australian series, but he worked hard with the bowling coach and played well in a domestic game. South Africa are a very good side, they have Kallis playing as an all-rounder and that gives them balance to play 5 bowlers. Some of their batsmen are exceptionally talented as well."

Ishant Sharma was the pick of the bowlers, picking up 4 for 40 in his 10 overs. Mohd Shami was expensive, while taking 3 for 69, Umesh Yadav struggled as he took 1 for 57 in 9 overs. Indian spinners R Ashwin and R Jadeja failed to make an impact.

18:27 (IST) Dropped: Substitute Ajinkya Rahane drops Quinton de Kock, close in at backward square leg. SA 71/3 after 17 overs.

16:45 (IST) R Ashwin before the game: It's going to be challenging. The bounce and pace is very different here. As spinners we try to extract bounce from the surface. I'd love to take wickets all the time. Would be looking to bowl according to situation.

16:40 (IST) Playing XIs:

South Africa: Quinton de Kock(w), Henry Davids, Hashim Amla, Jean-Paul Duminy, AB de Villiers(c), David Miller, Ryan McLaren, Wayne Parnell, Vernon Philander, Imran Tahir, Lonwabo Tsotsobe.

India: Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni(w/c), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav.

16:38 (IST) MS Dhoni: We were looking to bat first as well, looks a good wicket. Batsmen played a lot of shots, when young you want to play fire with fire. The more they play, the more they'll learn. I'm not really worried. We need to have wickets in hand and then accelerate in the middle overs. That's how it has been working for us till now.

16:37 (IST) AB De Villiers at toss: It looks a really good wicket here. We do not get a lot of huge totals here but we are aiming to improve on that. In ODIs we have to be aggressive, need to pick up wickets and we've been doing it.

16:33 (IST) South Africa skipper AB de Villiers wins toss and elects to bat. Yuvraj Singh is back in Indian XI, in place of Ajinkya Rahane. Henry Davids comes in place for rested Jacques Kallis. Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel also sit out.

16:23 (IST) Pitch Report: Shaun Pollock says there is no grass on pitch at SuperSport Park. The breezy conditions will assist swing bowling. The captain who wins the toss should bat first.

16:10 (IST) Hello and welcome to our coverage of the third ODI between South Africa and India in Centurion. Being a dead rubber, Team India will look for a consolation win.

India will aim to salvage some pride by winning the third one-dayer against South Africa in Centurion today, in order to gain confidence ahead of the two-Test series. It will be redemption time for Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men after two embarrassing losses in the first two matches which also exposed the famed batting line-up's inability to cope with pace and bounce of the South African tracks. South Africa won the first ODI by 141 runs at Wanderers and the second by 134 runs at Kingsmead.

The wretched form of Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh has also been a cause of concern for the skipper. They didn't come to the tour with a particularly good recent record. Both their individual averages, in the nine ODIs against Australia and West Indies at home, hovered around the 20-mark.

Talking of bowlers, if there has been one particular positive of this tour, it has been the learning curve of Mohammad Shami. Shami's pace allowed him to use the Wanderers pitch to good effect and he just carried that on to Kingsmead, picking up six wickets against an in-form batting line-up.

Dhoni says an under-performing middle-order was one of the main reasons for his team's pathetic show against South Africa, where the home fast bowlers have ruled the roost. "In the last few series our middle order, to some extent, was a bit of a bother. In this series we lost the top three quite early and our middle order was exposed. So if you assess, then that's maybe why we haven't been able to perform to our potential," he said. (Click here to read more)

India opener Rohit Sharma has dismissed talks of lack of technique and blamed the debacle to the lack of application and big partnerships. "Last game in Durban, the conditions were pretty much similar to what we get in India. There was a bit of bounce, but as a batsman you need to understand that you are playing in South Africa. It is really up to each individual how they tackle it, understand their game and adjust accordingly and know what shots to be played on these kind of pitches," Rohit said. (Read more)
